Watch this video (http://www.media.uio.no/personer/arntm/McGurk_large.mov) and figure out what the guy is saying. (Feel free to play it multiple times.)

Then play the video again but close your eyes once it starts playing.

Answer in white

if you look at the video, it sounds like he is saying "GA GA GA..." but if you close your eyes it sounds like "BA BA BA..." At least it does for me

This is really freaking nuts. It works even if you just cover his mouth with your hand. What is the science behind this? Our brains process some sounds base on lip movement?

Meh, bump for the daytime crowd.

Close your eyes when listening, then open your eyes when listening. If you do this, you will hear a difference. Be open minded and open eared to it.

wow, that is really really strange. Has something to do with how our brains process lip movements and speech. Very interesting video.

I believe you, but I find it amazing that people are looking at that guy and hearing ba-ba-ba while watching his lips move.

Whoa!

I too was like 'wtf' then I listened openly and tried to pick up on something.

When he talks, it sounds like "da da da", but when you close your eyes it's "ba ba ba"

Holy crap.

ClaytonN

Okay, here's a good trick:

1) Watch the video in sequence where he talks three times

2) Watch the screen for the 1st and 3rd sequences, but look away during the 2nd

3) Look away during the first and second sequenecs, but watch during the 2nd

Creepy!

Actually, it sounds like "tha," an arabic letter.
