It's a trick question; they did not have the SATs in the Ice Age.

I have to admit that whatever joker voted for <600 on the math portion did get a laugh out of me.

It was me! Nah it wasn't but I enjoy taking credit for the (good) work of others.

800 Math makes sense, but 760 verbal? Let's be serious, we've all read his books...

And why are we so sure David did?

Who cares? The SATs are a pretty bad test of mental ability. And we really don't need more people on these boards having more dick measuring contests with IQ scores and the like.

I never did take them neither, but I'm sure I would have made a 100 in both math and verble if I would have.

I was definetly in the top 99% of (high) school kids in Chickasaw County.

A 200 composite score means you only wrote half of your name down.

I like the <600 answer for verbal, only because of the way S&M books read.

In reality, I bet he scored between 700 and 760 on that part.

Remeber, he probably took them a long time ago, when it was ALOT harder to hit the upper level ranges of the SATs. An 800 now in Math is alot easier to achieve than an 800 in Math was in those days; back then a 700 was a great score. Same goes for the verbal section.

I am not 100% positive about this, as I was not alive back then, but I am pretty sure the SATs were re-centered in the last 10 years or so.

Someone told me that they had increased the minimum possible score. It used to be 200/200. So, if you miss every question, you would get a 400 overall score. What I've been told is that this minimum is now higher (probably to make underachievers feel better about their scores). Because the scores are awarded on a bell curve, an 800 would still be just as good a score now as it ever was. It would be given to a certain percentage of the kids who get the best score on the test--probably perfect, or nearly perfect performance. But you may be right about a 700 score. It may be easier to get a 700 now than it was in the old days.

I think it was closer to 12-15 years ago. They were recentered while I was in college if I recall correctly.

They re-centered them the year after I took them. I forget which year that was, though. Maybe 11 or 12 years back.

Actually, its just the opposite. While a 1000 scorer before recentering is likely to have a bump of somewhere around 80 points, those at the 1350-1400 range would only see an increase in the 20-30 point range.

Also, the recentering went in to effect around 96. I believe it was approved a couple of years before. I was a cronic underachiever in High School, but had a lot of ability. I has ALOT riding on my SATs

The test was changed to boost the average score by about 100 points in May 1995.
