About 2 months ago there was a thread about certain enhancements to make to the Firefox browser better and faster. Stuff like how many tasks it could perform at once, how long to wate between certain tasks. Does anyone know what I'm talking about or remember this thread? A link would be awesome, I can't seem to find it, I think it was in the Zoo, but it might've been OOT.

In that thread, someone wrote this:

These settings violate the HTTP protocol, and give you a speed boost by flooding the web server with 20-something connections for every single image and page request. There's a reason that they're not the default.

These settings will not only cause many web servers to have problems, but they can also make your web browser be mistaken for a flood attack, which will make the server add your IP to an "ignore" list. Stay away from these "optimized" settings, unless you know exactly what they do and how they work.

I've had mine set like this for a while and I haven't had any problems.

Very few websites are going to mistake your optimized webbrowser for a D.o.S. attack.

Is there any security risk to making such modifications?

There are acutally optimized BUILDS of firefox. Download, copy and paste in your programs directory.

False indeed. I've also heard that it's capped at 8 connections, so anything more than that and it will not make a difference. Those Moox builds work quite well.

I have had a problem with exactly one site.

I play the on-line version of the great board game Ticket to Ride. When I try to log in to the site with optimzed Firefox, it triggers "flood protection" on the login page.

Never had any other problems, but there is some truth to the rumor.
