The blinds were 50/100. No hands are going unraised pf.

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t100 (7 handed) converter (http://www.selachian.com/tools/bisonconverter/hhconverter.cgi)

CO (t780)
Button (t4035)
SB (t2050)
BB (t1570)
UTG (t2995)
Hero (t1440)
MP2 (t630)

Preflop: Hero is MP1 with J/images/graemlins/diamond.gif, A/images/graemlins/heart.gif.

Final Pot: t150

I am thinking that to play this hand I will need to raise 3 or 4x BB. Then I am left with ~1000, with 5 players still to act.

I folded. I felt that I needed to wait for a better position. I was not happy going up against the chip leader, who limped UTG, or that there were still 5 players to act.

Was this a mistake in this position. At the time it felt right to fold.

What would you have done here?

It's funny, we have basically had this exact same hand posted 3 times in 3 days. The first time it was AJo on the cutoff, the next time the seat before the cutoff and now 3 off the button.

Of course the further away you are from the button, the more reasonable it is to fold. Also you claim that the chip leader called UTG (however I don't see this in the hand history), which also makes folding more attractive.
