Here’s a hand that made me wish I took up boxing instead of poker:

10-20 at the Mirage--Fairly Passive

I’m in the BB with Ah7s…EP, 2 MPs, and the button limp….SB completes…I get a free play. 6 of us see the flop. $60 in the pot…I’m getting 5-1 on my money. Above I see the Oakland A’s scoring a run to inch closer to the Anaheim Angels…

The flop comes 7h7c7d

This is the type of flop everyone dreams about…the type of flop where you get down on your knees and thank God you discovered Texas Hold Em and thank God youre in the BB with Ah7s.

SB Check….I check….it’s check to the Button who bets…SB Folds…I call..as does a MP..everyone else throws their cards into the muck..they must sense I have a 7….Above me the A’s just tied the game at 3….it’s the first game of a crutial 4 game set to determine the AL West Champion…but that can wait…..cause I FLOPPED QUADS!!

Three to the Turn: $90 bucks in the pot

It’s a 4h.

I check again…MP Checks….Button bets again….I check-raise..YEAH BABY!! Time to make some money….MP scappers out of the pot like a scared puppy dog…Above me, Miguel Tejada is up with a chance to win the game for the A’s….The button 3 bets!! Talk about making easy money I think as I cap it! Button just calls.

2 of the best see the river. $250 in the pot

It’s a 3h…

I bet…..Button raises again..Is this a dream come true or what…I 3 bet……Button 4 bets!!! Now I remember its unlimited raising now, which I’m inclined to do, but a LITTLE VOICE comes to my head….”Dude,” it says, the button has 5h6h!, which means he has a straight flush!!! Oh [censored], I think….that’s right…he probably has a straight flush! I know I have a “good” hand, but the button probably has the best hand!! I decided to trust my “hand reading skills” and muck my hand…..As the dealer takes my hand away, I see Miguel Tijeda with his arms in the air as he rounds first base…The A’S WIN and The Angels and A’s are against tied for the AL West lead.

The button decides to show his hand…he did have a straight…..,but only a straight….I nearly gag as I realized I threw away the best hand, but I feel better once I realize that Mason Malmuth, Dynasty, Jim Brier, davidross, and Clarkmeister will laud my play and make me a better poker player.

If you flop quads, and lose, and you don't lose a lot, then you didn't bet heavily enough. You didn't bet nearly heavily enough.

Whatever dude. If you folded that hand you are a complete moron. You should take up Uno or SkipBo instead of poker.

Even though it was a free play, I would have still mucked it preflop out of sheer tightness. Then I would have given a reverse tell by "squeezing one off". Finally, I would have mucked on the flop in consideration of the implied odds that the others were getting. But before mucking, I would have made a quick move for my chips to kind of fake 'em out a little. Good post Ron. /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

Good one blat. I for one enjoy these posts.

I just can't believe there are people here who actually take these things seriously. That's the funniest part. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

That is not my dream flop. How much do you make when you flop quads, as opposed to when you hit the 4th card on the turn or river? It really is considerable.
You were severely outplayed by a bad player. He didn't bet into you cause he thought you had four 7s. He didn't 4 bet cause he thought he could bluff someone with four 7s, and make them think they had a straight flush.

You are a moron! I've never played at the Mirage, but like most B&M casinos, if he did have a straight flush, you would have won a jackpot. I can't believe you mucked that. I can't imagine anyone in the world would muck that hand for one more bet.
