View Full Version : When a steal goes wrong

So, some general questions...

It is correct to steal with any 2 just before the money, when you have a big stack and others have tightened way up. Let's say you bet 3XBB as a standard raise, so there's no telling if you have a hand or no.

Smallish stack re-raises all in.

This is just a pot-odds calculation as to whether you call?
Call with anything if you're getting 4:1 or better on the additional money?
Do meta-game considerations come into play that would justify calling with somewhat less than "correct" odds?

No, I think you need to tighten up on the bubble.
Steal with 7-5 players left if the blinds are big enough.
As for what to do if you get reraised on a steal, that depends on lots of things such as your stack size, his stack size, pot odds, other stack sizes, when the blinds will be going up, position, your image, other player's image, etc.

Maybe Saabpo has a better answer than this though...

If you are a big stack and you get reraised by a small stack it is almost impossible not to have odds to call.

Unless I am pounding a medium stack with 4 players left and one SS, I generally try to pick my spots rather than go with any 2.

If you have a really huge stack(70% of the chips) the guy thats second is going to fold almost anything, feel free to push any 2 against him. Its situational I guess, here personalities matter more than cards.( 94o against a wimp > K6 against a strong player)

On the rare occasions when you have a very large stack against 3 or 4 other players, you really want to leave the small stack alone.

When playing to win, your chances are much better if you can help the short stack into the money. The medium stacks will tighten up because they think they can fold into the money. Pick on them and by the time you get to the final three, both of your opponents will be very small.
