He was the most fun to see hit home runs. The guy was super talented. Sad to see him turn his life to crap.

That's all.

I feel sorry for him and have a ton of scorn for him at the same time.

Dude, GET YOUR [censored] LIFE TOGETHER, YOU DUMB BASTARD.

I have his 84 Donruss rookie card which was around $60-$70 in the day. It is now worth chit.

I got really interested in baseball in the mid/late '80's. Our cable company carried WWOR out of Secaucus (sp.?) New Jersey, which carried all of the Mets games. Gooden and Hernandez (I'm Keith Hernandez!) were my favorites, but I liked all of those guys. I spent two summers ('87 and '88)working in NYC while in college, and got to see them play live quite often.

Gooden and Strawberry may be the two biggest wastes of talent ever.

It's about the 1979 Crenshaw High baseball team which Strawberry was on.

This sounds interesting. Have you read it? Can you imagine Daryl in HS?

This may be true. But, I wasn't saying he was the greatest player/ had the best stats.. I was saying I enjoyed seeing him play. Michael Vick may not be the best QB in the NFL, but I love watching him play. The way Daryl swung was just effortless, but the ball would jump off the bat and be out of the park in the blink of an eye. The way he was built, I bet he could have played football and/or basketball.

He was the champion of the swing where right after you hit the ball, you immediatly let one of your arms drop from the bat during your weak ass follow through.

In June of 1993, I read a Peter Gammons article (probably in the Boston Globe). In it, he said that the three best baseball prospects since MLB started the amateur draft were, in no specific order, Ken Griffey Jr., Alex Rodriguez (who had just been drafted), and Darryl Strawberry.
