I'm looking to start playing 1$-2$ limit and be moving up to 3$-6$ and eventually 5$-10$. Anyone have any ideas on what kind of bankroll I need to play these limits to be able to play through the swings? Thanks for your advice!

The standard bankroll for a limit is 300 big bets, so $600 for 1/2, $1800 for 3/6, $3000 for 5/10. This will guard against you going broke due to down swings assuming you are a winning player!

How much is your bankroll right now? Did you win it playing, or bonus chasing? How many hands have you played? The answers to these questions will determine what limit you should start at.

I think he meant big bets, not big blinds. But yea, standard thinking seems to be 200-300 big bets and, if you're a winning player, you should never run out of money.

My personal strategy for moving up has been to accumulate 200 big bets at a level, then when I have about 25BB over that I take a stab at the next higher level. If I lose it, I drop back down, if I win I stay there until I can repeat with the next level. Started at .5/1 with $50, playing 2/4 or 3/6 now. However, 200 big bets is probably a bit slim if you keep blowing profits on shots at levels you're not quite ready for. I'm going to build up to 300BB I think before my next shot.
