I have played at the following vegas card rooms, mostly NL action with either 1/2 blinds or 2/4 & 2/5 blinds perferred if avaliable. I have pretty much had a 70% success rate for a winning session. Tight, Agressive Play, buying in semi-short stacked when it looks like the game calls for it, or buying in for the max vice versa.
Following is the name of the card room with a one word description of the NL action I have found there.

Orleans - steady
Palms - juicy
Rio - overflowing
Mandalay Bay - insane
Binons - acceptable
Plaza - sour
Sahara - annoying
Excalibur - stinky
Mirage - sweet
Harrahs - fishy

I know I have not played at some good rooms such as ballys, aladdin & belliago.. But what i am curious about is information on the outlaying rooms such as Sams Town, Boulder Station & Sunset Station.

Any words r appreciated

Hey, could you rate those from worst to best places to try please?

I am a bit confused by adjectives... hehe

Aladdin=fishy, but getting tougher
Bally's=not so fishy
Bellagio=it's the Bellagio...... MIXED BAG...

Outside ones, I wouldn't bother, almost all locals... not fishy enough...

I play mostly limit so I'm not quite up on all the NL strategy. What type of game calls for buying in semi-short stacked?

Sam's Town and Boulder Station do not spread no limit. I'm not sure about Sunset Station though.

Buy in short stacked if the table is lose and you know that when you have the nutties, you'll get some callers.

yeah ive read allvegaspoker tons of times.. good help to start, but looking for a bit more...

ranking those rooms are overrated, cuz at any given time you have no idea how those tables are going.. yeah there may be locals who frequent those tables to make it good, but I think the best advice is fri nite & sat nite, almost every NL table in vegas is juicy.

At other times, they all have there all personality, as described on allvegaspoker & such

I perfer 2/5 with a capped buy-in because if i start playing 1/2 those one-gappers after awhile will start to look good.. /images/graemlins/spade.gif

You want one word reviews....

Bellagio - Varies
Santa Fe - Nice
Sunset Station - Delicious
New Town Tavern - Dangerous
Circus Circus - Clowns
Flamingo - Nirvana
Golden Nugget - Golden
Cannary - Wild
Luxor - Muppets
Gold Coast - Soft
Bally's - Softer
Imperial Palace - Softest
Aladdin - Heaven

At least those are the no-limit games I have played in recently (that did not appear on your list).

Best Wishes

Howard

/images/graemlins/grin.gif -- Nice summary HB -- Your post might hold the record for the best NL poker room reviews in the fewest words. Classic.

The only one I don't get is Luxor? Muppets? What's that all about? Recently, I would describe the Luxor NL game as "chilly" FWIW.

I'd describe the locals there as "ancient" like the pyramids /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hi Photoc,

When I played there Tuesday morning (3:00 am to 9:00 am) there were no "actient ones" at my table. Just a bunch of hard drinking 21 year olds with money to burn. YMMV.

Hi AVP,

Muppet = Super Fish

Or as the old timers would say...

Muppet = Sucker

Not sure how long the term (as a poker term that is) has been around but I first heard it from 2+2er Space Ace. Everyone at my little poker meeting (WPDG) now uses the term instead of fish.
It's a fun word.

As I said in my post to Photoc, I play mostly at night and late night. I've found the Luxor game to have a rather nice Muppet/non Muppet ratio. YMMV.

It's general slang from the UK. Reference: mob boss from Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, lining up a hit:

"I don't want to know who you use, as long as their not complete muppets"

I just got back from Vegas. Stayed at the Luxor, but didn't play there until Thurs graveyard. A couple of rocks were there, but they were tourist rocks. Most of the table was under 35 and laggish. Especially these two Swedish nut cases. The Luxor sucks because the game is $1/2 50 buy-in.

However, once you go below 50, you can buy another 50. So technically you can post your BB and then buy more bringing you up to 98.

But still, for 1/2 you need to play someplace that allows a decent buy-in. Bally's has a nice room and a 1/2 200 max game.

I only played on Thurs at the Lux because I was too tired to go back up the strip and I wouldn't be playing anymore that day.

The dealers suck there. They misdeal every other hand, They can't read the board. They let players argue and/or joke around way too long and have no control of the table. The floor is no better.

DON'T PLAY THERE UNLESS YOU HAVE A GUN TO YOUR HEAD.

a large stack is more profitable for these table conditions.

Id like to get some opinions... lets say $100 min/ $500 max buyins... 10 people at the table.. large stack is around $1200 and two short stacks at around $200, one guy with $80 and the rest with around $400-$600 in chips...

what would be the best buy-in? $500 for the max is what i accept to hear....

Also, overall under what conditions would you consider buying in for the min, or much less than the max?
