Late in a live $350 MTT, 70 runners.

7th is a free entry into a similar-sized upcoming $200/$100/$100 MTT. 6th = $700. 5th = $900 4th = $1500 3rd = $2500 2nd = $4500 1st = $8000

9 left. I have 16000 after posting 2000 SB. BB has 6000 after posting 4000 BB. Botton moves all in for 5000, I call from SB with T /images/graemlins/heart.gif 8 /images/graemlins/heart.gif.

flop: A /images/graemlins/diamond.gif T /images/graemlins/club.gif 3 /images/graemlins/spade.gif

I push.

Later: Down to 8 left.

Blinds 3000/6000 I have 10000 after posting the BB. Shortest stack pushes for 11000 total from the cutoff, I have 63o.

I call.

i'd fold. if you wind up with all your chips in the middle with the BB (which seems likely), you'll have put in an additional 8k on top of the original 2k with T8s. yuck. if you fold, you'll still have 4 bb's and have a chance to steal.

once you get to the flop (presumably the BB called the 1k?), definite push.

"Hope to get lucky?"

No comprendo. If you have crap, there is nothing your opponent can do to make that hand better. Fold and "hope" your next hand will be better--how could it be worse?

The opponent "made your hand better" by going all-in with a short stack while you were BB. He gave you the opportunity to win a 20k pot by only paying 5k. So if you can win more than 20% of the time it's a good call.

63o is 33% against AKs or a similar number against any two bigger cards. It's about 15% against a pair 77 or higher. Two bigger cards are much much more likely than a pair. And there is a small chance of something like K2 or A5o (35-40%). So calling seems like a pretty easy decision.

Look at it another way. Hero is almost dead. He can't make it through the blinds again without winning a hand so he's out soon anyways. If he folds, even doubling up on the next hand still leaves him crippled.

But if he calls here and wins, he'll have 29k. If he loses, he's down to 4k in the SB, instead of 7k in the next BB if he folds. He's not giving up much by calling.
