I play this stupid game all the time. My wife thinks I'm A) a dork for playing it, and B) the only dork who does. Actually, I don't know anyone else who does, either. So, am I the world's biggest dork for playing it? Or are there other dorks out there?

BTW, best times (I have no clue how "good" any of these are) ... Beginner, 5; Intermediate, 33; Expert, 101.

no, but I am a Freecall Masta'. I once won 34 games in a row.

I used to play a ton of Minesweeper. I could never break the 100 barrier in expert (best was 103 or so).

That gives me a lot of hope for my poker endeavors, seeing as you're one of the posters I most respect.

Hopefully my poker catches up to my minesweeping skillz.

Thanks for the link.

I can't believe my ego's getting a boost from this. That's just plain pathetic.

Alltime low is 112. On my current computer, I have a 118 with a ball mouse, which in my opinion is MUCH tougher to use in minesweeper than a regular mouse.

Those are pretty good scores. I used to play this game quite a bit when I was bored, but it doesn't work for me any more.

My dad plays this every f'ing morning when he gets out of bed for like an hour. The best part is when my wife and I go visit, she'll sit down for about 5 minutes and beat his score(s) and then quit. He gets pissed, spends the next several months beating her score, we come visit again, she sits down and beats the new score - it's hilarious.

I had him hooked on freecell before minesweeper. He was actually pretty good at that - he'd go hundreds of games without losing. My dad knows two things about their computer - where the power button is and how to start up minesweeper & freecell (I made icons for him on the desktop).

Me too. I'll take it where I can get it, I guess.

If you've scored 101 at Expert then you know how "good" it is. Fishing for compliments much? /images/graemlins/smile.gif

My best was 120- or 130- something. What an amazing suckage of time that was . . . I did score a 1-click "Easy" victory once, go me.

I have a beginner score of 1. I clicked a square, and everything cleared. Hasn't happened since, but I haven't played in about 7 years.

I used to hate minesweeper before I learned how to play it in my academic team class. I used to play it every day and had the best score in my class. I wish I remembered some of my scores.

edit- I play it sometimes, but it's when I'm in class, so I don't get to really try for high scores.

There is an open problem in mathematics that stems from the minesweeper game such that if you solve it, you would win one million dollars.

I'm ashamed to say that I have infact broken the 100 second barrier. What a bloody load of time I wasted on that game...not to mention the debilitating carpal tunnel that resulted.

I was addicted to minesweeper for while in grad school.

I have a friend whose best recorded Expert time is 84 seconds. He claims to have done 79 second once and I believe it.

I would be willing to lay money that he can beat 100 seconds in 1 hour of play. He is just that good.

I've played this game a few times, but I wasn't very good. Some of these times are just insane. What kind of strategies are there for minesweeper? I never have any clue what I'm doing.

Well, OK, I knew for myself it was damn hard to get to that 101 ... actually there was some luck involved, the final eight bombs all wound up packed in the final corner I got to and my final click cleared like 1/5th of the board. 111 was my best score prior.

What I didn't know was if or how many other people played or have similar or better scores. Seriously, I didn't know anyone else who even played.

I would MUCH rather be a winning mid-limit poker player than a nerd who can score 101 in Minesweeper. Maybe someday ...

Freecell stats: 415-14 (97 Percent), best streak 133 wins, longest losing streak: 4....MY GODDAMN SISTER DECIDED TO PLAY!

Minesweeper best expert time is like 115...damn i thought i was good too! Now I have to spend anothe 1000 years trying to break 100.

About 2 years ago I got a 69 on the Expert level. Can still get under 100 pretty easily.

watch the world record scores... pretty crazy (http://www.metanoodle.com/minesweeper/)

Someone I went to college with is on there with 57 seconds. That time is 100% legit. My PR's are 21/81 and he demolished me on a regular basis. I always prefered intermediate (because you are forced to guess less) and at one point averaged under 30 seconds, but I couldn't beat him.

We used to play in chem lab all the time while we were waiting for HPLCs to run. I haven't played much after that since I just had a touchpad on my laptop, but with my new optical mouse...
