I consider him more of a 'tweener. Plus, he's not the main antagonist in either movie ('Hannibal' never happened).

The problem I have with the Lector/Hans Gruber/Buffalo Bill type is that I look forward to their scenes too much. Their characters are so over the top (read: hilarious). A good villain should inspire pure ire.

Guess that disqualifies Darth Vader then (for those that chose him). I would've gone with the Emperor for Star Wars anyway. Darth Vader was an imposing figure, the Emperor was pure evil genius (and by far the best actor of the series).

My vote goes for Jack Nicholson as the Joker. Best casting choice in all of the Batman movies (thus far). I don't think the part could have been played any better. Not to mention his diabolical madness (ie. lets have a parade giving away free cash. It doesn't matter, because we'll just get it back after we poison everyone with gas) is not easily matched.

Benedict, from The Last Action Hero.

"If God were a villian . . . he'd be me."

Too bad they didn't have the special effects to end the movie the way it SHOULD have ended (i.e., him pulling Dracula/etc. out of the movies, instead of Slater's lame nemesis), but nonetheless . . .

Benedict. Definitely. Hans Gruber, a close second. I think the two of them would have gotten along famously.

There are over 100 responses in this thread and I don't think anybody mentioned the one movie villain which truly inspired terror in many people who watched the film.

When the film came out, many viewers were devastated by Margaret Hamilton's performance. That continued in subsequent airings on TV. Many can't rewatch the film years later because of it.

Anyone mention the Gene Hackman character Little Bill from Unforgiven? That guy had issues.

Wow! Hopper and Oldman are real close. I also like DeNiro as Max Cady.

Good call. Max Cady was a great character, and DeNiro was perfect for it (not to take anything away from Robert Mitchum). The scene in the movie theater was classic.

Another pick for me: The robot lady from Superman III

I couldn't find a picture, but apparently I was not the only kid who was scared shitless by her: IMDB (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086393/board/thread/6947461)

Great choice! HAL was about the only one who gave me goose bumps. The combination of a cold calculating mind and a warm caring voice works great for me.

Mr. White, Reservoir Dogs

[/ QUOTE ]

You mean Mr Blond, right?

Mr White wasn't that bad a guy. After all, "The choice between doing ten years, and taking out some stupid MFer, ain't no choice at all."

Now that Mr Blond, THAT'S a villian. "Look pal, I don't give a good [censored] what you know or don't know. But I'm going to torture you anyway."

sh-it, eastwood could've been considered the villan in that one. that roll, william money, has to take the cake for 'ultimate movie badass'- 'any man who takes a shot at me, i'll kill him. i'll kill his wife, i'll kill his children, burn his god damn house down...'

Keiser Soze, f yeah!
