is there an ideal ratio of 1sts, 2nds and 3rds? Even generally speaking, I know you shouldn't have more 3rds than 2nds and 1sts, but can anyone elaborate on that?

Well, the ideal ratio is 1st 100%.
As long as your 3rd places are less than 1st and 2nd, you shouldn't worry.

Or if you have enough 1sts to displace an increase in thirds you may be getting from aggressive 3 handed play.
