I'm looking for a new game to burn some time. I own all 3 systems and a decent gaming PC, so there are no system restrictions. I'm mainly looking for something that I can rent (possibly buy if PC) and enjoy for a few days and then possibly buy if it's worthwhile.

Here are the types of games I enjoy with examples:
RPGs (Final Fantasy)
Strategy (Civilization)
RTS (Starcraft)
Simulations (Sim City)
Side scrollers (Mario)
FPS (Halo)

My latest purchase was Halo 2. If I already own the game I will let you know. So we're looking for an XBOX, Gamecube, PS2 (my least favorite), or PC game.

Do you not have MarioKart and Zelda for the Cube? Star Wars Rebel Strike and Bond Everything or Nothing are also good. Also, for an old-school scroller, you can get the Megaman Anniversary Collection - it has all the Megaman games (but I don't like how they set up the controls and you can't change it).

Knights of the Old Republic is a great game. Buy the original or the sequel.

Almost beat Zelda and played Double Dash. Also, I almost beat KOTOR and my hard drive got wiped, so no more on that.

I'd recommend both World of WarCraft and WarCraft 3: The Frozen Throne for PC games.

I've got WC3 but not FT. Is the expansion that good? Also what's the monthly fee on WoW and is there a trial period offered?

Ever play Call of Duty for PC?
The Age of Empires series is also pretty good.

Never played Call of Duty, might look into that one. Age of Empires 2 I use to play in my IT class in high school with my other buddies over the LAN. Ahhh...good times.

Not a fan of the Resident Evil series and my roommate has #4 also.

How is the Total War series? Civilization 3 (big fan of the series but never got this one /images/graemlins/frown.gif)?

I was actually thinking about RoN. Heard some good things about it. Does it offer online multiplayer? And is there like a gold pack I can buy that has the expansion packs included?

Yeah, if you haven't played RoN, it's a great choice.
No doubt you can get a good deal on it these days, too.

It's unfortunate RoN was overlooked by a lot of people.
If it had said "Sid Meier" on the box, things probably would have been different.

Frozen Throne is not to WarCraft 3 as Brood War was to StarCraft. /images/graemlins/wink.gif If you've already experienced the WC3 gaming experience, I wouldn't bother with upgrading unless you're really into it.

WoW monthly fee is around $11, I think, with 1 month, 3 month, or 6 month plans. As far as I know, there aren't any trial offers going on right now, but you never know. Check out www.worldofwarcraft.com (http://www.worldofwarcraft.com) for more details.

Oh, and I have yet to see this game not suck in a person for at least a few weeks of their lives. So, don't say I didn't warn you. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

CIV 3 is AWESOME. I'd have recommended that first if you didn't say in your original post that you were a fan of the CIV series.

Agreed.

And FWIW, SimCity4 is a great way to waste a week or two.

As far as console games go, I'd pick up the Zelda Colllectors edition either from gamestop or ebay. It's got Zelda, Link, and two from n64.

I already own Zelda 1 and 2 for the NES and Ocarina of Time for 64. I have no interest in Majora's Mask.

I'm thinking about the Megaman Collector's Edition that came out recently though..

That's sort of a weird thing to say, given the fact that you like other Zelda games.

Why don't you have any interest in it?

It's actually a pretty solid game.

I hate the Nintendo 64. OoT was an excellent game, but I don't think that Majora's Mask would be too much of an innovation over it. I could be wrong, am I?

Half-Life 2 or Doom 3 I'd like to play but I don't think my system could handle it.

2.4 GHZ P4 and 512 MB RAM. 64 bit Radeon 7500.

Prince of Persia sounds like it might be a good rent, but I don't think I'd like to buy it. Megaman might be one that I end up buying.

I wouldn't call it an "innovation", but it's definitely a very enjoyable game. While it shares certain aspects of OoT, there are a lot of differences, too.

I think of them as very different games overall.

I 2nd Call of Duty. It's one of my favorite FPS games. The variety of level structures and historic backdrop really made it a lot of fun. I tend to get bored with FPSs, and I couldn't wait to see what came next in this one. Also, the sound design is excellent. If you have a good set of speakers hooked up to your computer, this game really captures the cacophony and confusion you'd expect in a war.

Ninja Gaiden excellent choice. Once of the best games ever.
WCIII and World of Warcraft as others have said for PC.. excellent and worth subscribing to WoW.

A good online game that many people play that I highly enjoy is Unreal Tournament 2004. Many people still play it online. The favorite mission is Onslaught, where your team has to take over the entire map. 16 vs 16 matches are great.

Ever play Diablo II: LOD (expansion pack)?

Man, that game is amazing. I dunno how it's going now, but when I played online about 3 years ago, it was so hot. I wonder if they'll come out with a third.

At one point, I played for a month straight. Like, slept 8 hrs and played the rest besides 1 hr for food and bathroom. I lost 15 lbs of muscle mass in that month, but god damn it, it was worth it.

And the winner iiiiiiiiiiis........

WORLD OF WARCRAFT!!!

Some other friends I know play this and they recommended it, so I'm going out to get it today. Plus I had such a blast on FF11 so I'm sure I'll enjoy WoW.

Very, very fun. I just finished this last weekend. I'm not an online team-play enthusiast, but the single player game was terrific. Looking forward to the expansion.
