he is hard at work on his next movie describing how merck, pfizer, j&j, etc. are trying to kill you in order to make a profit. i wonder if he will use bear scrotum and elk tongue when he gets cancer instead of the evil medicine of the capitalists.

You know, I find these kinds of responses to Moore disturbing.

I may not agree with him, but these types of attacks from those of you who don't like him are way over the line.

I don't get it. It seems like that's a pretty standard conservative attitude.
If anything, it just makes you look sillier than he often does.

Funny that some people on this thread sound like Anne Coulter herself.

"I'd prefer to use a baseball bat to talk to liberals"

How is that different than

"use machetes on the tutsis"?

[censored] fascists.

I don't think anyoen takes Moore's words as truth, but he does bring up issues and his movies are usually good for a laugh or two.

Agreed. I think it can be summed up in the Michael Moore character from Team America. Instead of saying why he's wrong...two hot dogs. The typical argument against him usually mentions that he's fat, or that he's a spin doctor. Unfortunately, he's far better informed about just about everything than the vast majority of his detractors, despite being presumtuous and manipulative.

I'm not saying most liberals do this - my whole family is liberal, and most of them are reasonable - but tons of people get fed this garbage and eat it like it's filet mignon. Same goes for conservatives who listen to Ann Coulter and the likes, but that doesn't excuse Michael Moore.

The Dude

He's not uninformed. He's deceptive and manipulative.

My point in making this post wasn't to turn this political, though. I thought it was funny that this might be the first time a filmmaker has ever been genuinely pleased that his film won some Razzies.

Speaking of which, i can't believe the razzies actually get some publicity. Bush etc get razzies for their 'performance' in f/911? A film we can all guarantee they wanted no part of and didn't exactly act in? It seems like the razzies like the chance to push their political viewpoint as much as moore does...

Halle berry actually going and picking hers up is definitely an expert play though.

If you really feel that way, you should have a problem with all of talk radio in America, particularly "right wing" talk radio. The problem is that these people ... be they Michael Moore, or Rush Limbaugh, or Sean Hannity, or Laura Ingraham ... are entertainers. They sell a product. If people are dumb enough to listen to entertainers for right and wrong ... and threaten bodily harm to them for stating their opinion (even in a "joke") ... then we are in a whole lot of trouble.

While this certainly is a matter of opinion ... you can't be serious. Do you ever listen to any of the people I listed? Not only do they take significant liberties with facts (which you say Moore does as well), but they do it on a daily radio show. Moore has a movie once a year. So perhaps you want to reconsider who is on what level.

Ugh this belongs in the politics forum now, but I'm sure a much more civil level of discourse could be achieved here...

For all those who say Moore distorts the truth, I would be interested to hear what facts/stories specifically you have a problem with. You know going into the movie that he is going to attempt to make a biased point, where does he LIE though?

I recall hearing that the whole story about the administration allowing the Saudi royal family to leave the US when no planes were flying was not true. Perhaps someone can confirm this.

But my feeling about the movie was ... even if 75% of the movie was a lie, the mere fact that 25% of its facts/allegations were true should have caused a reasonable person to have grave concerns about re-electing this administration (and assuming that 75% of a documentary is false is, quite frankly, ridiculous, no matter what your point of view). Apparently, 52% of America did not agree with me.

I would have liked the most strident supporter of the administration to see the movie and tell me what is and is not a lie. I am open-minded. Unfortunately, nobody ever really did that. In fact, the admininstration's policy was more to ignore the movie than to comment on it. One can reasonably assume that, between the administration and the "conservative" talk radio block, a compelling case could have been made about a substantial portion of the movie being untrue, if that was in fact the case.

I apologize if this should be on the politics board ... I am afraid of those people.

I wish more people realized that "patriotic dissent" is not an oxymoron. You should be able to hear something you disagree with without wanting to hogtie and deport the speaker. (And yes, the inability to do so does make you look silly.)

I'm not particularly a fan of Moore's work - I think he's much to fond of rambling voiceovers and hand-wringing. The facts are generally on the side of whatever argument he's making, and I'd like his films more if he didn't editorialize so much. For instance, I much preferred the second half of F911 to the first. I pay enough attention to politics that not much in either part surprised me.

There are talking heads on both sides who seem to be able to continue making an argument even when it seems to have little or no basis in reality. But I see a lot more of it among conservatives these days.
