Currently have T1,480. I'm on table 33. No real interesting hands so far.

I currently have T1800, was down to 90 chips earlier. Only 2 other active people at my table now. Unfortunately, they both have position on me.

11.2k with 165 players left.

AA twice last hour proved to be VERY profitable.

I'm still alive, only at about 2k chips though.

Corey

At the third break, I have 26k.

Have a good table with a bunch of tight-passives and a manaical ex-chip leader who now has 2nd or 3rd largest stack.

Shoe
02-27-2005, 02:12 AM
Had a good run, but lost the last hand, so i'm down to 7k at break.

Who is the maniacal chip leader?

Corey
02-27-2005, 02:15 AM
ex-chip leader...got that way calling an 20k all in with middle pair/decent kicker and rivered two pair against AA or KK

MicroBob
02-27-2005, 02:18 AM
I'm at 12k at the 3rd break.
Average stack is 14k.

56 players left.

Probably not going to make it but I'm pleased with my performance.

Top 50 out of 700 ain't too shabby.
And I finished 24th out of 400 in last week's VIP-WSOP freeroll (Jurollo knocked me out and eventually won the whole thing).

Yes...I'm catching some breaks obviously...but I like to think that my tourney game is coming along kind of decently.

Ask me again after I have a 15 tourney streak where I fail to even come close to making the money.

Corey
02-27-2005, 02:24 AM
Just got moved to the right of you Bob. No more tight-passiveness like my old table.

MicroBob
02-27-2005, 02:26 AM
was that a quick visit and I missed it?

The seat to my right is currently vacant.

I know somebody got knocked out of that seat (I got raised out of the hand...I had TT) but I wasn't paying much attention after I folded.

Corey
02-27-2005, 02:27 AM
Ok, two seats to the right, but the right in play with the seat empty.

MicroBob
02-27-2005, 02:34 AM
aha.
yo comprendo.

MicroBob
02-27-2005, 02:47 AM
Yuck.

AA loses to 33.

I'm down to $60 in chips.

Since blinds are currently at 400/800 I'd say I'm pretty short-stacked.

I get a full-orbit though and there is no ante in these things so I'm still going to wait to pick my spot.

Okay...I'm out...all-in with K9s in the CO and it's me and the BB who has 54o or something and I'm out in 35th place.

Oh well.
Maybe next time.

24th and 35th in these things this past week....man that's a lot of play for ZERO return (of course...it didn't cost me anything either).

Not quite 1am here....plenty of time to hit the bars.

Corey

4th break.

I'm chip leader with 89k.
Next closest is 56k
24 players left, average of 33k. blinds going to 750/1500.

I'm looking good now, but my shorthanded game is horrendous, plus it's 2:20am here, but I just moved to the caffeine so hopefully this won't be an issue.

I'm in good position, but still a long way to go.

Paul just went out with QQ vs. Ax.

As for my shorthanded game, I hope it doesn't stink the rest of the tourney.

Corey
02-27-2005, 04:14 AM
Just won a huge pot.

Hero has QQ vs. good player with 99 vs. major tilter with A5o

Get A5 all-in preflop, put 99 in on all undercard flop.

12 left, but I'm not frantically reading posts in this forum to learn how to play.

Yea... I knew babcom was going to put me all in with any 2 cards, felt i had to call and hope to double up.

Good luck, your short handed game seems good so far, you seem to have pretty good control of the table.

Corey
02-27-2005, 04:28 AM
Alright, update between me re-learning how to play.

12 left, average stack at 66k
I'm leading with 170k, second is on my right and keeps stealing the pots I'm supposed to steal, and is quite agressive. I see either him or me taking this thing (hopefully we both take the 2 spots)

Second is at 135k.

One note corey..remember spawn is gonna sit on his stack to win the seat (or so he hopes). His blinds are eminently stealable.

Thanks for the advice, anything else. Seriously, I'm so bad playing shorthanded.

Punker
02-27-2005, 05:31 AM
I think right now they're taking shots at you a bit; you've shown a tendency to lay down to reraises more than I prefer (without knowing the hands). Of course, I think until you get to about 150K you should be in all in or fold mode (barring possible cheap flops). And watch out for blairbaby's limpins.

Corey
02-27-2005, 05:43 AM
Please, more advice. From anyone.

Punker
02-27-2005, 05:47 AM
When considering when to steal or when to call raises, the strength of hand you'll be up against is much higher from large stacks. When you raise, smaller stacks will gamble with you with weaker hands. Big stacks will not gamble without very strong hands.

Punker
02-27-2005, 05:50 AM
Also, they're folding too much preflop...I'd raise less each time, maybe starting at 25K. They seem to have automuck turned on so the lower raise gets the same reward with less risk. But the next blind jump is going to settle things.

Corey
02-27-2005, 05:52 AM

I just starting coming in to watch and saw that last hand suckout. I'm glad it was the 2+2ER doing the sucking out.

The chat box after that A hit was hilarious.

Well, I didn't expect to win in that way and I attribute those terrible plays on my part to my incredible lack of understanding of tournament end-game. I guess the HEPFAP I just got today and my limit play may need to take a backseat to tournament play.

It was clear she should not mess with my big blind. It was stated in the chat box. However, I know 75% of the time her raises of my BB were steals, but unfortunately the couple of times I made moves, I had the worst of it.

But in the end it's 5:30 in the morning and I have such an unhealthy mix of adrenaline and caffeine that I won't be able to sleep tonight. I'll post a couple of hands later for some advice as I have to learn how to play tournament poker in the next four months.

Again, I just want to thank everyone for their advice and sweat and I promise to learn how to play so I don't embarass the crap out of 2+2 at the ME. Of course I'll have to wear Empire garb, but I promise to greet everyone "sup bro" and talk about my historic 1995 season.

Here's the suckout hands that I got from PT (I didn't even know PT could import tournament hands). I won't explain my thought process as most weren't coherent, but I guess I could asnwer specific questions. This isn't really a strategy post so much as to show the massive suckouts to earn my seat:

I had 4k or so raked hands this month.. barely squeaked by for the qualifier. Of course, I forgot about it...

I went over to my friend spencer's house.

I'm a yank. He's from virginia. We both went to school at WFU and live in winston-salem, nc.

We had a good time drinkin' by the bonfire.

It was worth it.

Congrats Corey, I'll be one of the other 2+2er's there. I would like to see a thread made here about the J3s hand, seems the complete lack of folding equity makes this a call and see the flop hand, not a push him in hand. I would love to see some other thoughts on this.

He had raised my BB the last 5 times and I really didn't have anything to push him with. Once I saw the flop and folded but that's it. So I figure there's a good chance he's on a pure steal and a reraise would get him off the hand. However, my chip stack was to the point where a re-raise would pot committ me so in an effort to maximize my folding equity, I pushed. I knew he would call with Ax, probably any pocket pair, and maybe KQ, KJ, or QJ. That's about it.

Is this line of thinking totally wrong?

Jurollo
02-27-2005, 05:29 PM
Looking over it again I definately would fold this up, you only have 10x BB at this point, 9x after the hand. When I try to steal I generally like to be the original raiser. If I were you I would have waited to see a few more hands and then you'd be below 7x BB and have to push at some point. You two are both basically getting to the point of desperation but IMO you arent there yet and can stall a few more hands, especially since your two hands off the blinds you don't have to ante like on other sites. Makes you 9x BB stack a little larger. I am glad it worked out for you though as I needed some luck to win my seat too! I would like to see what others think though too, I might make a thread.
