View Full Version : Looking for BETA testers for new software - Party data mining

I am currently developing a new piece of software, I have it to a point where I am going to start recruiting beta testers for it and within the next week or week and half I should be ready to start sending it to people to beta.
The program is a Party data mining application, it works with PokerTracker in a indirect way. PokerTracker actually reads the hand histories and imports just as if you were observing table and doing data mining like most people do here.
The big problem with unattended data mining is when a table dies you don't get anymore data from that table. Numerous times I have starting mining 4-8 tables before I go to bed only to wake up and not have a single table, because the tables break apart, even after being gone for several hours this has happened.
My software will guarantee you have 4 full tables per party skin all the time. If a table falls below a specified number of players it will close that table and find a full table and open the full table.
I ran it all last night mining Empire and Party 8-tables, PokerTracker showed an average of about 22-24 imported hands every 3 min. It was still going strong 12 hours later.
I am looking for testers that have a decent reputation on here and can run the mining application very frequently.
Thanks.

I datamine all day during the week and use remote desktop from work to keep track of when to change tables. This program sounds like it would make it much easier. Nice to see another austin peep on here too. PM me if you would like me to test the app.

I don't think I have a reputation here at all, decent or otherwise, but I'd like to beta test, or at least use your program when it is publicly released. May I ask what language you're writing it in?

Suggestion:
Offer the Pooh-bahs (or people with X posts) free testing. Charge a small fee to everyone else. [You could easily set up a PayPal account for this.]
I'm assuming you want reputable posters to be able to vouch for the program when you release it. But this approach has problems, b/c how is 'reputable' defined? Better not to hurt anyone's feelings by using post count.
Also, this is a good program idea and many many people would want to employ it, even in beta stage. Why not get some cash now from the people with low post counts? Ex: charge them one-half the retail cost now and the remaining half to upgrade to the 1st retail version when you publish it.
That said, I'm interested in beta-testing as well.

Pooh-bahs who have half of their posts in the off-topic forum? Sounds like a plan.

Does your program have to run in conjunction with Poker Tracker? I'm interested in helping you, although I just uninstalled PT. PM me if you still need volunteers.

Kenrick: Thanks for illustrating my point
<about how easily people get wound up over this issue>
Prod1gy: Kenrick popped a fuse over simple post counts. Imagine what you would encounter if you tried to sort people based on your opinion of their "reputations."

I didn't pop a fuse or got wound up. I was pointing out the silliness of judging someone's knowledge or character based on post count, which tends to happen on the various forum sites I read. There is little reason to have a post counter next to people's names.

The beta is still probably about a week out. I was sick most of the last week and didn't get nearly enough done on it. I have a few more things to add then it should be ready.
Thanks for all the responses to people wanting to help with the beta.
I have been in touch with several people and still need to PM a few more back.
Should see something very soon.

it's a good measure of addition. also patheticness (if that's a word) but I prefer the word "addiction"

It sounds extremely clunky, but the word you want is "patheticalness". "Pathos" is much more fun, but isn't quite the same thing. However, you will definitely sound cool if you use "pathos". (Unless of course you only use it when correcting another's post, then you sound like an assclown grammar-nazi. For extra-bonus grammar-nazi points, you can use "pathetical" rather than "pathetic". Both are acceptable, and you can rise to the ranks of Captain Assclown if you bait someone into correcting you and then stick a dictionary in their face.)
I'd like to beta test. I'm on the 5/10's at the party skins 40+ hrs a week. And can run it 24/7.

Not yet, I will be adding support for all tournament types in a upcoming version. The beta will support all Hold'em, Omaha, and Omaha Hi/Lo games for all limits.
