she is a harp player who plays really wild great songs with elaborate inventive lyrics and intricate gorgeous long songs with complex melodies, timing, and structure. she's a genius and i saw her last night at the troubador and swooned the entire time, it's like the greatest show ive ever seen and ive seen hundreds. she was on jimmy kimmel for some reason but i didnt see that because i was at the show and then hollywood park after that.

anyway she has nothing to do with www.xxx.com (http://www.xxx.com) or how often you beat it or any of the typical oot stuff but i can avoid work by typing out stuff like this so for those who are bored and like great different non-rock music (i love rock btw) go ahead and look her up.

ps: her voice is weird. 95% of you will hate her voice and be scared away because it doesnt sound like alanis or whatever sort of freaky macdonalds brand made shiit you all like.

Okay.

Also, you apparently haven't noticed how many wanna-be hipsters and music snobs we have here.

"Also, you apparently haven't noticed how many wanna-be hipsters and music snobs we have here."

listening to arcade fire and the smiths doesnt really count as hipster or music snob in the world i came from the past 15 years, but i was heavily involved in microindie labels and obscure current music of all sorts so okay i see what youre saying.

anyway i was just being snide, i only posted because i know there are probably a few people on here who would like this lady's music. soulseek it it's easy to find on there.

Funny you mention her music. I went to high school with her and her brother (a good friend of mine) and hung out many times over at thier pad. She's a very talented musician, her brother is a kick ass drummer also.

You probably haven't noticed but she usually goes on all my music suggestion lists.

I am also in love with her. And the show was sold out, you are a lucky, lucky man to have seen it.

I have no idea how to describe her music, all I know is, it makes me a happier person to be able to hear her sing. She is amazing.

I've seen Joanna Newsom a couple of times. She's great. I think she's sold out already this weekend.

I can't believe you played at the Hemlock without telling me, you tool. I love that place.

Thanks for the tip. Hadn't heard of her before, but I like it. Anything else you like that I might not have heard of? (I'm not picky genre-wise.)

hey mike she is really good, I just picked up her album on itunes. thanks for recommending this. her melodic thing reminds me of joni mitchell a lot.

Her voice is too childlike/bjork like for me it just grates through me.

But just to show I am not just a heavy metal heathen heres something you might like, bit of chill out electric violin playing from Ed Alleyne-Johnson.

Ultraviolet (http://www.muntfish.com/alleyne-johnson/music/uv.mp3)

A google will find the unofficial website which has more clips on it, best to listen to the ones before his wife started singing on the records though.

He came to my attention playing for New Model Army who are touring the states next month and for fans of decent good guitar based rock music are a must see.

Theres also a chello group called apocalyptica (http://www.apocalyptica.com/home/) who are pretty decent rock stuff, came to fame doing metallica covers but have moved on a lot since then.

Did you see Joanna Newsom w/ Vetiver and/or Devandra Banhart?

I saw Vetiver last night and they were great.

The Golden Apples of the Sun (http://www.arthurmag.com/store/bastet_cds.php) - compilation CD some of you might like (scroll down on that page).
