View Full Version : Fiendish logic puzzle (Su doku)

Sudoku is a fun new logic puzzle that has started being produced in the papers over here, along with the daily crossword, bridge column etc.

There is a 9 by 9 grid make up of 9 3*3 squares. Each row, column and box must have the numbers 1-9 exactly once. Today's was a tough one.

9 - 1 : - - 2 : - - 3
- 8 - : - 4 - : 6 - -
- - 3 : - - 1 : - - -

- - - : 3 - - : 1 5 -
7 - - : - - - : - - 9
- 9 4 : - - 8 : - - -
______________________
- - - : 6 - - : 5 - -
- - 9 : - 7 - : - 3 -
4 - - : 2 - - : 8 - 7

You have to fill in all the blanks.

So, we have a 3 in row C, box i) and in Row A box iii)
Therefore, there must be a 3 in Row B box ii), and there are only two spaces available Column D or F. But we already a 3 in Column D (Row D), therefore Row B Column F (B,F) is a 3.

Oh ok, I think I get it now. So in each group of 3 rows, the same number is in different sections, and in all 9 rows, it's in nine different spaces.

This is going to keep me hella entertained in lecture today. I like it.

Each column contains the numbers 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 once.
Each row contains the numbers 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 once.
Each 3*3 box contains the numbers 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 once.

Law School Admissions Test

There is an entire section (or two if you're unlucky) comprised of logic games/puzzles. I used to think things like this were fun, but practicing them for months under strict time constraints has conditioned me to cringe whenever I see anything similar.

i did it and forgot about the 1-9 in each box. im gonna do it again following all the rules. i think it will be easier actually.

ok, as expected, much easier when following all the rules
probably took about 10 minutes or so in between my job activities /images/graemlins/cool.gif

This is exactly the same type of puzzle they have in those Dell Crossword Puzzle magazines. They recently had one that was 16x16, using all the numbers 1-9 plus the letters A-G.

Okay. What is the trick to solving this stupid ass thing. I cant figure it out.
