My opponent just sat down, so there are no reads.

Call and raise the river instead, you dont want him folding when he is behind and he probably wont check the river with hands he would have called down a 3bet that often.

If he's passive, I just call.
Aggressive and/or tricky, I 3 bet.

I wouldn't.

A check raise on the turn most often means trouble. If I suspect a semibluff I call it down instead.

Are you willing to fold this hand before showdown?

Considering you have no reads and your opponent was in the BB, I'd tend towards "probably not" and call down.

And fold if 3-bet?

I like your advice Trix. Thanks. There were six players in the game at this time, but three had just sat down, so it had a sort of aggressive, short-handed feel to the game. If I didn't think he could make that check raise with sevens, I probably would have just called down.

If he's passive, I'm thinking of folding. What are you putting a passive player on that c/r'es this board that you can beat?

If he's aggressive, Im calling then at least calling the river bet.

Let's see ...

You have two pair because the board is paired. A straight is on board. You have been CRed on the turn by a player in the BB.

Reraising here would be chip spewing. The best you can beat is a weak 7 or a pocket pair, and is he CRing you with that? I doubt it. Time to hope you're good and call him down.

Now if he checks the river, I'd bet. But inviting a 3-bet on an expensive street with really nothing but an overpair is a great way to lose more money than you need to.

Well you're not drawing dead. Spiking a K will take this down, or if a scare card ( /images/graemlins/club.gif) comes on the river and he just has the 4s then he MAY check and you can get a free showdown.

Call down and bet the river if checked to. Saves a bet if you are beat.

If this is a passive player, you don't call a 3 bet. You're beat.
