I am going to Vegas with some college buddies this weekend and none of them have played Hold 'em other than in a home game. What advice would you give them and is there anything short and simple that they could read in a couple hours or less?

Finally, any suggestions on where to play in Vegas for the noobs?

Thanks in advance.

Play only premium cards and play aggressively when you do.

if you are just wanting to have some fun at the lower limits, go to the Palms.

Pick up a copy of HEP. It's short and sweet and if you understand what it says, you'll be ahead of the games at the Excalibur, at least.

Suggest they approach playing poker like blackjack or roulette -- have a budget and treat it as entertainment. (Nothing wrong with that; I'll play blackjack at a casino with friends to be sociable and for fun, but not being good enough to count I'm well aware it's a losing proposition for me.)

There is no book or advice that can change a losing player to a winning one in such a short span of time. If they are already winning players, they'll do fine, and if they're not, they get to have some fun with you and have a stop-loss to bail them out.
