This is, IMHO, the greatest computer game ever. There are no graphics to speak of, you don't use a joystick, you can't compete against other players, but in terms of shear creativity, the completeness of the world the developers created in a 2 MB file, and the difficulty of actually winning the thing, I'm still impressed all these years after I first started playing it.

Anyone else tried it?

yeah, I've played it.

Never quite got the whole OMG I love this game it's the BEST EVAR!!!! that some people get with it.

But, yeah, occasionally I'll bust it out and play for a bit.

What IT guy hasn't played nethack?

Wow, I haven't seen anyone mention this game in years. Great game though, amazing amount of detail. Even with the spoilers it took forever to finally beat the game.

If I'm not mistaken it was originally developed for UNIX, or at least an early version was written for UNIX...that might have something to do with it.

I believe you are correct.

I remember first playing it around 94 or so, and I think it'd been out for quite a while back then. I believe the early 80s? Something like that.
