I would like to propose a brief FAQ for the PLO category that we could ask the moderator to sticky post at top. If we can come up with a consensus FAQ perhaps he would.

PLO FAQ

1) What books are available to learn about PLO?

a) Omaha Holdem Poker by Bob Ciaffone (currently out of print but some copies available thourgh Gamblers Book Club online);

b) Pot-Limit and No-Limit Poker by Bob Ciaffone and Stewart Reuben;

c) Super System 2 by Doyle Brunson et. al.- chapter on PLO by Lyle Berman;

d) The Science of Poker by Dr. Mahmoud M. Mahmoud;

e) How Good Is Your Pot Limit Omaha? by Stewart Reuben;

f) Play Poker Like The Pro by Phil Hellmuth.

If you search the forum for posts about these specific books you will likely find opinions about how good each of them is.

2) Is this the right forum for questions about limit omaha high or limit omaha high/low?

No. Questions about hi/lo should be posted in the separate forum category for that game, and questions about limit omaha high should be posted in Other Games.

3) What online sites have plo games?

a) Party Poker:
$100 max buyin $1/$2 blinds
$ 50 max buyin $.50/$1 blinds
$ 25 max buyin $.25/$.50 blinds

b) Poker Stars
$1000 max buyin $5/$10 blinds
$ 600 max buyin $3/$6 blinds
$ 400 max buyin $2/$4 blinds

$200 max buyin $1/$2 blinds
$100 max buyin $.50/$1 blinds
$ 50 max buyin $.25/$.50 blinds
+microlimits and + larger limit games not often found

Paradise Poker
$400 max buyin $2/$4 blinds
$200 max buyin $1/$2 blinds
$100 max buyin $.50/$1 blinds
$ 50 max buyin $.25/$.50 blinds

24h Poker
$5000 max buyin $10/25 blinds
$400 max buyin $2/$4 blinds
$200 max buyin $1/$2 blinds
$100 max buyin $.50/$1 blinds

(I don't play Prima, Crypto etc. so maybe some of you can supply info + I haven't been on 24h in a long time so not sure how accurate that info is)

4) What brick & mortar casinos offer PLO?

This information can be found by searching the Brick and Mortar forum category.

(suggestions for other questions??)

not sure whether we have enuff traffic to justify this...people should just learn to search.

I am sure we shouldnt be recommending Phil H's book for PLO though, unless we have a comedy subcategory.

I agree 100% but I was just listing the books that do have plo information. They would actually have to search to find opinions on this. However, I don't mind encouraging players who play against me to read and follow Hellumuth's advice /images/graemlins/grin.gif.

UB has a 5-10 blinds game going at times, 1000 buy-in I think...

Well if you are going to include pathetic books such as Phil H', you might want to name Cloutier's Championship Omaha or whatever the title was...

Too true. I forgot about that as I threw my copy away long ago.

They have the table in the list yes but I haven't seen it go in forever. I was only trying to list games that actually seem to go on a regular basis.

I play in it when i see it, but you are right in the sense that it runs much less often than the 2-4 on the same site...

Pokerroom has games too..
blinds $0.25-0.5 $50
blinds $0.5-1 $100
blinds $1-2 $200

mostly the only game going is the $50 one tho.

This forum is pretty new and there have already been several threads asking what books are available about PLO. I think the FAQ would be useful. Even though this is a pretty low-traffic forum, PLO is a game that is new to a lot of people and a pretty large percentage of people who browse this forum are just learning the game (I believe), which means that we will get a disproportionately large number of newbie questions, exactly the kind that a FAQ can answer.

I haven't read that book, but based on their general quality of his literary works, I'm sure that what you are saying is true. I think that a list of useful PLO books would be a much better thing to have in the FAQ than a list of all books discussing PLO regardless of quality.

I agree bobbi. I only included Hellmuth's simply because so many people are familiar with it, but like I said before, I believe it and Cloutier/McEvoy are aweful. So I would agree that we should just list the books we recommend only or else to have a separate question regarding books not recommended and telling people to use the search for reviews of same.

"Omaha Holdem Poker" is available from Bob direct also. Lost the link, but it's here in one of the book threads.

And I'd give my left nut (and your right) if Party would up their freakin max buy-ins for PLO.

I'm in favor of this FAQ. Even though this is a light traffic forum, we get at least one post a week asking which PLO books to read. I also think the FAQ should address conventional bankroll reccomendations, a section on variance and win rates, and a referral to the PTO forum for questions about Poker Tracker Omaha.

I would include a section on starting hands, hand % pre-flop, and how to play aces. maybe also an odds section.

I would disagree with this as to starting hands since it is covered in the books, and as far as aces go, is actually a larger separate topic that has to include the quality of an AA hand and the number and type of opponents. I think the main problem for newbies here is in fact not having read OHP and PL&NLP and thus not having a foundation to be able to understand others' posts or ask intelligent questions themselves.

No it's not. I tried to get it from him two or three weeks ago and he said he doesn't have it, as it is out of print, and he pointed me to the Gamblers Book Shop.

you don't necessarily have to give answers, but those are some of the most common questions, so if the FAQ is frequently asked questions, then you should address them in one manner or another, even if only a link to a couple of threads

Some months ago I got it from the Card Player store. You might want to check there.
