I am pretty sure you to get the max points you have to construct 2x2 squares side by side all across the board of the below pattern (0's are just placeholders, pay attention to lines), however it may be impossible to set up? (dont know). Once you get the board set up like that smack a corner, top left works.

Yeah I tried setting up a few different grids over the whole board but could never get much more than 2,000 points. I think the trick is to make somewhat of a spiraling grid into the middle which could then go back outwords at the end of the domino effect... I'd rather play some poker though.
