My time was running out here and I was looking for a spot. I'd been pretty tight since I hadn't been getting any cards. I expected UTG's raise, since he had been doing a lot of min-raising like this, so I put him on a blind steal type hand and was ready to re-raise him.

Two questions:
1) Is my thinking here correct (i.e., A9o is enough to re-raise a bullying-type blind steal attempt)?
2) Once UTG goes in, should I fold or push (hoping to triple up)?

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t100 (7 handed) converter (http://www.selachian.com/tools/bisonconverter/hhconverter.cgi)

UTG (t2830)
MP1 (t315)
MP2 (t1200)
Hero (t550)
Button (t1580)
SB (t380)
BB (t1145)

Preflop: Hero is CO with 9/images/graemlins/heart.gif, A/images/graemlins/diamond.gif.
<font color="#CC3333">UTG raises to t200</font>, <font color="#CC3333">MP1 raises to t315 (All-in)</font>, <font color="#666666">1 fold</font>, Hero ???

Edit: FWIW, I ran a ICM calc on this. It came out to 8.1% to fold and 7.6% to push. (Of course, I'm not convinced I really know how to run it, so I could be off.) In any case, assuming it's right, I'm not sure if that's close enough to make a difference or not.

1) Yes if you are first in. In this case you have to assume you'll be called since people are so stubborn about being re-raised by a short stack.

2) With 5BB, you are pushing or folding no matter what UTG has done. In my opinion you are all-in here. There's a good chance you'll get some help when one of your opponents turns over a worse ace. 40/60 to triple up probably.

no, it would be an easy push if you were the first in, but you're not. wait it out.

I think moving allin is terrible, and its a clear fold.

My logic for push goes something like this: Urp... uh... panic... PUSH! I know this is not solid poker. I ran a bunch of hands I thought the other players might have through twodimes and not much they could have make you as good as 40/60. Really you're EV is 0.35 at best. Sorry. I retract my previous statement.

Ok, that's good to hear because you had me worried. I folded and never got another decent hand and got blinded away in 6th. I think I started second-guessing this fold.

No worries. Never take anything I post too seriously. I'm learned-ing by posting a lot of crappy advice and getting smacked for it.

i'd push VS the min-raise if i had the same read....though the 315 push would make me muck it, what do you put him on? best case scenario he has KQ or KJ or 22-88...and these are all marginal situations...worse case and equally as likely he has you killed.

You gotta fold. You're effectively calling all-in in this spot, because even if UTG folds you will be utterly crippled if you lose to MP1. Calling all-in with A9o with 3 players and a raiser yet to act is not a good idea, not when you still have 5.5BBs.

3 reasons to call

1. You may have the best hand right now.
2. You are very short stacked and your chips will soon not hold any value.
3. You probably won't get a better hand before the BB comes up in 3 hands.

1 reason to fold

1. In general you need a better hand to call a raise with than to make a raise with. Sklansky calls this 'The Gap Concept'.

I call.
