View Full Version : Simplify HU play?

Does HU play boil down to primarily muck/push decisions?

I’m delt this hand and am thinking “ok, here is a no-brainer”, but then I think to get tricky and figure I want a call and so maybe I could make a baiting bet. Then again, I got no-brains, so, is it silly to try tricks at the 11’s?

What is your play here?

Ok, so I go for being Mr. tricky and …

Preflop: Hero is BB with K/images/graemlins/heart.gif, Q/images/graemlins/heart.gif.
Button : calls t100, Hero raises to t400, Button : calls t200.

And the Flop comes:

Flop: (t800) 6/images/graemlins/diamond.gif, 4/images/graemlins/spade.gif, 5/images/graemlins/spade.gif (2 players)

Brain-damage! A flush draw, st8, no hearts…ok, mush-head… where to go from here?

Any suggestions?

If he's aggressive check raise all in, or lead out for 300, other wise.

I don't think there's anything wrong with just pushing preflop and thats what I'd usually do. The 400 chips in the pot do mean something when your opponent has only 2100 in chips.

By being tricky I opened the door, which is what, at the time, I thought I wanted. After seeing what came through the door, I started to wonder why I was making my life so difficult. A push preflop would, IMO, been a 90% certainty of a fold from villian. I must have no brains.

I think a preflop push is silly here unless you feel you are bad at playing HU post flop, which it sounds like you are. Raise to 600, then bet all in, or chek raise all in on the flop (opponent dependant) is my advice.

Yep, Villan sensed the same thing...

Flop: (t800) 6/images/graemlins/diamond.gif, 4/images/graemlins/spade.gif, 5/images/graemlins/spade.gif (2 players)
Hero bets t200, Villan raises to t1600, Hero raises to t1735 (All-In), Villan calls t135.

Turn: (t4270) K/images/graemlins/club.gif (2 players, 1 all-in)

River: (t4270) 2/images/graemlins/spade.gif (2 players, 1 all-in)

Final Pot: t4270

Results in white below:
Hero has Kh Qh (one pair, kings).
Villan has 5d 2d (two pair, fives and twos).
Outcome: Villan wins t4270.
