With the big fella out, only the Pistons pose a threat to my Baby Bulls!

It probably happened because the sports guy wore him down before the all-star game in a game of PIG losing 2-3 when shaq dunked for the win. After almost losing to the sports guy shaq was done for the year.

An ESPN News report that Shaquille O'Neal was out for the remainder of the season with a torn ligament in his left knee apparently was a bit premature.

The network is now reporting that O'Neal has only suffered a strained knee.

Your link is to a story where Shaq is NOT out for the season.

That's the best part. A network reporting what another network is reporting, instead of finding out themselves, then being forced to put up a correction when the first network is wrong.

As for the Bulls...I know you know basketball, but your Chicago love is a little overboard here.

I never make prop bets, but my first thought after seeing this was "how much would clark like to wager on that".

I'll take the Bulls, you can take any other team you like, and I'll wager even money that the Bulls go further in the NBA playoffs that season. How's that?

Clarkmeister, while I fully support your enthusiasm for the Illini (MEbenhoe is a Dookie tool! Woo!) and I love the Bulls and their recent great play, I still would like to see them next year after Curry gets a nice contract before I'm ready to anoint them as the next big thing. Won't a certain #23 in Cleveland have something to say about that? He's still way better than anyone the Bulls have, even as much as Gordon has been a huge stud and Deng has been a great rookie.

Well, one is free to pick the Cavs for the wager if one so desires.

Hey, I never wager against my own teams - seems like such bad karma. I just don't want to put too much into a good half-season - they've finished strong before only to flop again the next season. That said, this team with Skiles feels to me like the real deal - they remind me of last year's Pistons a little.

Hmm. I need to look at some contract situations before picking a team that will go farther.

Clarkmeister

I fully anticipate Skiles to be gone by that season. Ala Collins being the guy to get you to point B and Phil to get you to point C. Skiles is a point B coach, but he's a damn good one.

Are you serious about this bet? I want to take it, and I'll take the Spurs. There's some decent chance I won't be alive then, can we give the money to a trusting third party?

OK, here's the deal. Anyone who wants this wager must post in this thread within 12 hours and must have at least 50 posts to their credit before the time of this post. The wager is a flat $100 per person. Simply respond and select your team. Limited to the first 10 who accept. All bets on the honor system and if any poster goes inactive for more than 6 consecutive months during this timeframe, their individual bet is off. Remember, we are talking about the 2007-2008 season.

Wow. I'll take this bet with the Spurs. The Suns are and have always been my team, but this is just easy money.

I wanted to go out on a limb and take miami instead of going the easy route with the spurs but his contract is up after the 2005-2006 season.

So, i'll take the spurs as well.

Hey, any chance I get to talk smack about Duke. . .

Duke certainly has a stronger basketball tradition right now so I'm just savoring this year. I have great hopes for the continued success of the Illini but it will still take a while to come close to Duke's last 15 years or so.
