20+2 Party Poker Sit n Go.
Blinds 150-300
Stacks
Seat 9 hpotter 1516
Seat 7 solo319 1780
Seat 5 Hero 1443
Seat 4 tcdgurl 3261

I am more interested in getting 1st place than easing into the money. It takes more than 3 thirds to make as much money as one first.

My image is tight aggressive. I have only shown down 3 hands and they were all very good hands.

I am on the button and the other small stacks are on the blinds. The chip leader folds utg. Do you push all in with any two?

If you are the big blind in this position and the button pushes all in, what range of hands do you call with?

I'd still rather have three thirds than a first and two fourths.

Third place = net profit of $18
Second place = net profit of $42
First Place = net profit of $78

3 thirds = $54
1 first = $78

What brand of crack pipe are you smoking?

So what are some of the marginal hands that you would move in with?

76 suited?
King-9 suited or unsuited?
Any Ace?

You shouldn't accuse someone else of smoking crack when your math skills are so poor. You have to subtract the buyins from the 2 times that you don't win first place. So it becomes $78-44 = $34, which is less than the $54 profit from coming in 3rd three times.

What brand is yours?

3 thirds = $54
1 first and 2 fourths = $78 - $44 = $34

My apologies for the flawed math. I have checked these numbers twice. I think it proves my point. 3rd place sucks.

By the way, I feel playing tight, solid poker should get you to the money around 50% of the time on the lower sit n go levels. I am just trying to find out what adjustments I can make to get more 1st place finishes and less 3rds.

Total 10 Sit n Gos and $220 invested

1st Place 1 72
2nd Place 1 38
3rd Place 2 36
4th or worse 6 -132
Net Profit 14

1st Place 2 144
2nd Place 1 38
3rd Place 0 0
4th or worse 7 -154
Net Profit 28

1st Place 0 0
2nd Place 1 38
3rd Place 4 72
4th or worse 5 -110
Net Profit 0

You are right, 3rd place sucks. I avoid it at all costs and go for first by stealing the blinds at every oppurtunity around the bubble. They are all sitting there playing for 3rd place (like suckers), so it should be very easy, your cards don't even matter anymore.

You're justifying over aggressive play on the bubble with very poor numbers. By being more aggressive vs. passive in some of the scenarios that you have outlined, you WILL finish 1st more often. However, nowhere near the degree in which you try to illustrate above.

To your original post: Pushing with any 2 here is horrible.

I agree that third is not ideal, it is however very underrated by a lot of people.

Although there is a time and a place for everything, If I found a secret formula that meant I came third in every game, I would never post it.

It's part of the skill of SNGs to work out when to attack first and when to take third.

In the situation you describe (although the listed stacks appear to be in a different order), I think attacking the other two equal stacks is fine, because they would be nuts to take you on.

Edit: That does not mean you can play any two, but maybe you can be 'looking to be aggressive'

So back to my original question.....

What marginal hands do you push all in here with? It's obvious that you push with high pocket pairs and broadway cards.

If you are the big blind, which hands do you call my all in bet with?

You only need one piece of advice given your question.

QUIT PLAYING POKER NOW!

You obviously don't have the capacity to become a winning player given your inability to perform simply addition and subtraction exercises.
