Actually at this table I was following up missed AQ and AK hands randomly on the flop and turn and people were folding 2/3 of the time but my river play was dispicable

I dont think any of them are going to believe you were betting the king. AK would be betting that flop... heck, aces or a set of kings should be betting that flop, since if you had AK or AA, there's quite a few cards that would make you uneasy on the turn.

The king really changed nothing to all involved. Check the turn. Call a modest sized bet on the river. And this is one of those rare situations where if it's checked to me on the river as well, I probably just check behind. Either they have nothing, or they are looking to check-raise. Trip kings wouldn't be checking on the river again I don't think.
