I've just decided I"m going to vegas over spring break. I plan to play poker for the entire trip. I need a room to sleep in. I do not care how nice/crappy the room is but it should be as cheap as possible and within a half hours walk from the major poker rooms. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Look into BudetSuites. 3 locations near the Strip. Around $210 or so (plus tax) for a whole week.

Wow, why has no one mentioned this before? That's a great deal. For those of us who've never been to vegas, how easy is it to get to the major poker rooms from those locations? Do you need to take a cab, or is it walkable?

The Sahara was no worse than the Luxor, and 1/2 the price. Since its located at the last stop of the Monorail its easy to get to. Best of all, they just announced in rool wireless networking - ABOUT TIME! You can get a room at the Sahara for as low as $49/night.

Binions is having a $29 a night rate sunday-thurs right now. It's not within walking distance of the strip casinos, but there is a bus route you can use that is semi-conveinient and cheap.

This is not what spring break is designed for. Please reconsider.

Okay, first of all, cabs are VERY expensive in Vegas (I've visited quite a few places, and the only palace I've ever been with more expensive cabs is Japan). With that said, you need to be in the center of the action.

The first hotel that comes to mind that's cheap and in the center of the action is the Imperial Palce. The hotel is not great, but it is usually one of the cheapest on the strip. It also has the distinction of being in the CENTER of the strip, and within comfortable walking distance of about 7 poker rooms includig Bellagio and Mirage.

And, the Imperial Palace has its own poker room, which offers the most generous per hour comps in Vegas ($3 per hour). Also, daily poker tournaments with low buy-ins.

Check Imperial Palace rates first. Also, check Flamingo, Ballys, and Harrahs -- these places are probably a bit more expensive that the Imperial Palace, but they're all (pretty much) center strip AND they all have poker rooms.

Good luck!

I have found its cheeper to stay at the Sahara for $49 and get a rental car. Most hotels don't charge for parking, and I was only charged once for valet parking, and that was at the Hilton of all places (score!!!!). You can get a weekly rental car rate for around $100. For what it is, the Sahara rooms aren't that bad, the bed was no worse than the Luxor, which is where I stayed last time.

Of course nothing beats the Bellagio, if you can splerge and pay the $199/night for the poker rate (weekends) then do it.

If you need really cheap, stay and play downtown. Golden Gate is clean, albeit old, and very close walk to Binions and Plaza. Also, I think Four Queens and Golden Nugget have poker rooms as well. GG should cost no more than $40 weekdays and $65 weekends. Their deli provides cheap eats that are pretty tasty. You can get a decent lunch or breakfast there for $3-6 and absolutely stuff yourself silly for about $10(shrimp cocktail + pastrami or corned beef sandwhich + nachos(or other appetizer) + beer).

Also, if you are on super budget, you could stay at Gold Spike. Just walk to the closed area of Fremont Street really quickly.

Then if you want to play at Bellagio or Mirage, just take a cab or rent a car for a day or two.

A further option is to stay at Orleans if they have the "mastercard rate". I have heard of rooms as low as $19-30 per night with that rate. They have a great poker room and tournaments twice daily. Its not an expensive cab ride from there to Bellagio or Mirage...perhaps $4-7 or so.

Me and a buddy usually come out to vegas a few times a year and usually get an airfare and hotel package for between $275-$350 depending on the length of the stay. We usually stay at the luxurious IP.

I like to go to www.swavacations.com (http://www.swavacations.com) . It's possible that you have seen me. I played alot at Ameristar before Harrah's opened their room back up. I haven't gotten to play live here in town very much the past few months because of some personal things going on.

3 weeks ago I stayed at the IP. I think the rate was 49 or 59 a night, Fri through Sunday nights. Split w/my buddy, minus poker comps my total bill was $42 for 3 nights. The hamburgers at the Burger Palace near the poker room are pretty good too. Avoid the buffet. Play 2/4 at about 11:30 to 11:45 am right after the 'Holdem Lessons' get out! Made $40 in 1.5 hours. It's not the nicest poker room, but it's walking distance to Alladin, Mirage, Harrah's and others, I'm sure. No need for cab rides for the most part. They also have a weird NL game at the IP. All-in w/crap was the rule of the day.
Have fun

I stayed at the IP about a month ago and I would have no problem reccomending it for someone who wants a reasonable room rate and to be right in the middle of the strip with more poker action than they can handle well within easy walking distance. I didn't have any problems with the room, but I am just looking for a comfortable place to sleep a couple of hours a night.
The poker room at the IP was fine, I liked it, and the comp policy is great. All you have to do is sign up for their players club card, which you can do on line and then just pick up when you get there, and hand it over to the desk in the poker room and they comp you $3 per hour which you can use for food or even money towards your room rate!

You also might try http://www.americawestvacations.com . Got some good packages there. Airfare and 2 nights at the Mirage for around $250 last summer and airfare and 4 nights at the Riviera and airfare for around $300 last fall.

the orleans has a shuttle that runs between the Orleans, Gold Coast and Barbary Coast. BC is kitty corner from the Bellagio.

Just in case you're interested. The Stardust has very good Poker Room rates. $45 on the weekends, $30 for the weekdays. That's for the tower rooms, the Villa rooms are cheaper but not as nice. I don't know what the minimum requirements are but I doubt that I play more than 5 or 6 hours/day on average and they never say anything to me. It's not the Bellagio or Mirage but if you like low limit Hold Em it's fine. It's not as central as the IP but it's easily within 1/2 hour of the bigger hotels on the strip. I'm going there starting March 21st but I think they told me the rates would be higher the week before. Also, the Wesward Ho is really really cheap but a really really crappy motel.

Try Ellis Island, lots of local blue hairs and riverside necks hang out there.

I am incorrect about the cab prices. I stayed there this past weekend and a cab ride from Harrah's to CH II(Near Sahahra) was about $15 one way during Saturday night 10pm traffic.

There's been plenty of good suggestions for places to stay and play. The big burn is when your spring break is. At this late date gettting a cheap room might be harder than normal. If your spring break is the week of March 14th I wish you luck.

I just did a search on Travelaxe which searches for the lowest fares on a number of websites. I usually have fairly good luck with this search as lots of places match the lowest prices you can find on the internet. (Orleans and Gold Coast for sure) I put in the week of March 14th as an example, and all of the places were fairly high priced for that week. The lowest was some Extended Stay - Boulder Highway for $35 a night...wherever that is. Even the Orleans was $99 and the Imperial Palace was $179. Of course the "Vegas Motel" comes up for $35 a night too, but that sounds like kind of a spooky place.

Good Luck...it may be kind of tough at this late date. Try the Las Vegas Club, Four Queens, or the Plaza downtown as they are fairly cheap if they have anything available.

It's $3.50 just to *sit down* in a cab in Vegas these days (I got back 2 days ago). The Orleans is about 2 miles from the Excalibur/NYNY/ so plan on an $8 ride with tips. And there is NOTHING to do or see at the Orleans (read that *women*).

Binions is cheap and decent down town but if I were you I would stay on the strip. Lots of other action when (not if) you get tired of playing cards.
