Just how high is the variance in a multi-table tourney?

Can a good player expect to get in the money one out of ten?

No matter how many books I read, how much I study, and after all the tourneys I've played, I still suck at tourneys.

I have a 18% in the money with more than 500 tournaments (most of then 100 and 200 buy ins). Thats about 1 every 6. So the answer is yes, its possible.

In fact an average player should cash 1 out of ten, since 10% are usully the places paid, at least in the internet.
