View Full Version : Tighter and tighter?

Has anyone else noticed a trend of more and more people making it to the higher levels? I'm routinely getting to 100/200 with 7-8 people left lately. (I play $55s). Is this just variance, or is this a general trend? It makes the games much tougher to beat.

Isn't this just the $55s coupled with normal variance??

PP 20+2 SNGs are getting much tighter too.

ya this has been happening to me a lot lately too but I find that it doesnt mean the players are better. They usually wind up doing silly things in this level and one or more players bust out almost every hand.

$33s still full of morons, it's been a long time since I found a good player that wasn't a 2+2er.

Yeah, I've noticed it too and I play all the way down in the 5.50s. This isn't to say that relatively, those players aren't still ridiculous, but these do seem to be much tighter than a few months ago. I used to could almost fold my way into the money at that level.

This question comes up every couple of weeks. The answer is still "No."

I was in the money at 25/50 today in a 20+2 which is the earliest I can remember. I wasn't used to playing heads up when there is a move other than all in./images/graemlins/grin.gif

Has anyone ever tried just folding in a tournament and seeing how far it got them?

I had a go at the $5 tables at Ladbrokes and lost 3 tourneys that way, coming just out of the money each time.

But the folding strategy does work on play money.

Perhaps it works on $1 tables?

I've seen a bunch of this too. It's not that players are _good_, they still suck, but it's more common to have 7-8 left with 100-200 blinds.

(edit - I should note that I've played a lot more SNGs recently, so I'm far from certain that they're playing tighter. I may well just be _noticing_ more.)

This is much less fun than pushing every hand (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=singletable&Number=1521248 &Forum=All_Forums&Words=fastest&Searchpage=0&Limit =25&Main=1508650&Search=true&where=sub&Name=11284& daterange=1&newerval=1&newertype=y&olderval=&older type=&bodyprev=#Post1521248). (The linked SNG was great. It's funnier if you put it in the replayer (http://teamfu.freeshell.org/replayer.html#), particularly when it gets to the last hand.)

I suspected this was just variance. I just wanted to test the water to increase my sample size.

well, the general consenses around here is avoid all hands except AA-KK, AK (maybe) and then push to still blinds at 8x BB, and always fold to a push unless you have the above hands. If everyone starts playing like that the games will be as you discribe.

Hasn't happened yet though for the most part.
