Good Fold?

I'm on a $.25-$.50 table at Royal Vegas. I'm one behind the button with a pair of nines. Six people call. The flop comes A8A. The big blind bets, everyone folds to the guy two seats behind me, who raises. Figuring one of them has an ace, I fold. Rags come on the turn and river. At showdown, one turns over 84o, the other 86o, and they split the pot. Should I have stayed in with these two nut cases, or was my fold a good choice?

one. i would rase preflop. (i assume you mean 4 limpers + blinds call preflop.)

two. not a horrible fold w/o a strong read on them as being completely crazy.
