my friend just got scammed pretty bad out of $1700. he bought of laptop off ebay from some dude for $1700. i thin the guy was based out of japan. right before the auction ended he was outbid, but the dude emailed him and said he would still go through with the transaction with him as well at the price he had bid.

right when my friend told me this i told him it was a bad idea and not to go through with it because ebay offers no protection for this sort of transaction. he told me that he had already paid the guy. i told him not to be surprised if the laptop never came.

it's been 3 weeks, the laptop hasn't come, and the guy no longer responds to emails. i'm sure he got scammed.

what can you do about this?

How did he pay? That is where he needs to seek help.

Your friend is most likely screwed. Like Meep said his one possible recourse is to take it up with whomever arranged for the payment to be processed.

I had a similar situation, but for a lot less money. I just sent emails to every ebay department I could find. I gave the item number and the guys ebay name. About two weeks later I got the item.

Haha I just imagined Truman in June 1945 getting scammed on some Hentai porn.

Yeah, but carpet bombing Tokyo will never get the OP his precious laptop, now will it! I say send secret ninja agents over there to recover the laptop, THEN bomb the hell of out 'em.

lol, that's what he said. "i think i just learnt a $1700 lesson"

i think he wired the guy the money. not sure. i would love to track this guy down in japan. it would make for a great adventure with my buddy that's for sure.

i almost made a roadie to florida to track a guy down. my brother bought a wakeboard (~ $350) and it didn't come. after many nasty emails the guy finally sent it though. we were contemplating a li'l trip down to see him.

balki got scamed by a guy thru a non-ebay transaction. He tracked the guys house down and his wife said he moved to japan. Strange.
