Saw this movie last night for the first time.

Way way way overrated IMO, I'd give it 2.5 stars out of 4, barely. Terrible soundtrack, Eddie Murphy's character was more irritating than comical, and the running gags relating to the fairy tale characters were amusing, but not what they could have been. I dunno, just didn't like it that much, and I tend to like movies like this.

Since you saw the first one, might as well rent Shrek 2 as well. More of the same stuff but better imo. Don't expect 4 stars though.

Agreed. There was nothing special about it. I didn't really enjoy it and don't understand why people loved it so much.

Didn't like it at all. 3/10 at most from me.

Sadly it can't hold a candle to Toy Story or its sequel.

I agree. 6/10.

No where near the quality of the pixar films.

shrek is made by dreamworks...
pixar stories are much better though, but the effects (particles, fluids, smoke type stuff) animation in shrek is incredible, even better in shrek 2, some very cool technologies...

Shrek was good, not great. Toy Story was great. Monsters, Inc. was hilarious. Finding Nemo was very good.

Yup, Pixar > Dreamworks.

Chalk another one up to George Lucas.

You can't overlook the fairy tale aspect.

If you grew up appreciating fairy tale stories, then Shrek was a fresh angle on the fairy tale genre and you laughed at the inside jokes.

If fairy tales bored you as a kid, Shrek will not be funny at all.
