i bought in on pokerstars with $50. i knew micro limit tables were probably a lot like play money so i started on 5+.50 SnGs . its worked, i'm up to about 120 right now and im placing in the money right around 50%. I'd like to move on to other games but i don't know what kind of bankroll i should have. I'd like to do 10+1 sngs and probably start doing .25/.50 nl tables. i think i read on here to have 300x BB before i start playing at any limit. Is that right? i'll want to even be generous with my BR before i dive into ring games because even tho i've been playing poker 3 years now i've done so almost exclusively in tournaments.

so basically, what BR should i shoot for before i start playing 10+1 SnGs, 20+2 Sngs, .25/.50 nl tables, .50/1 tables, etc. is 300x BB a good rule and how does it translate to SnGs?

For no limit the reccomended bankroll is 30 buy ins. I am sure a no limit player could add to that. I would also guess it should be more for someone trying to live on their winnings. But i will shut up to let a no limit player help you. Also take a look @ the FAQ that they are working on for this board.

For NL ring you can get away with 10x or 20x max buy-in BR, the worst swing I've had is 8x max buy-ins.

Sit and Go, referring to single table tournaments.

I couldn't agree more. I think 30x the buy-in is just so conservative. I agree that 10x-15x is fine. Just don't be silly with it. If you find that the next level is too difficult, don't be afraid to drop back down and build to a higher BR level.

I always think that it's better to try the next level up sooner (within reason) than later, because if you find that you are winning at the higher level, you've saved "dead time" at the lower limits when you could have been making more at the upper limits.
