It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you,
There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do,
I bless the rains down in Africa,
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had.

I currently have this song on endless loop on my playlist as I attempt to force myself to write a 3 page biomechanics paper due in the morning. Yet instead I'm making pointless posts on OOT. Damn good song though.

it was actually the first thing I thought of as well.. when I opened it and found out it was actually about the song I was kind of disappointed -

I wanted to make a reply about the song and try to be witty /images/graemlins/frown.gif

Greatly misheard line of the night:

I bless the rains down in Africa

most people hear

I miss the rains down in Africa

For my biomechanics paper i have to invent a new sport, thus I have invented the great sport of rocketball.

Africa has officially hit its 10th rotation on the playlist.

This thread's suckiness is only matched by the song it is about.

STFU, you have no musical taste when it comes to 80s music. You hate it all so you should have no say. Because of this blasphemy I will plague you with 80s music forever.

I can produce many counter examples, "Jesse's Girl," for one. I am done with this thread now I hope it dies a quick death.

Schneids has a point - Jesse's Girl is one of the best 80s songs ever...

Not even Rick Springfield's best work. I've Done Everything For You is better. That and Africa OWNS Jesse's Girl.

I'm about 1 page into this paper.

Africa has now officially been looping on my playlist for an hour straight.

Isn't hard to come up with 10 better 80s songs...

Don't Dream It's Over - Crowded House
Danger Zone - Kevin Loggins
Enjoy the Silence - Depeche Mode
Money For Nothing - Dire Straits
In Your Eyes - Peter Gabriel
Our House - Madness
Paradise City - Guns 'N Roses
Relax - Frankie Goes To Hollywood
So Alive - Love and Rockets
Under the Milky Way - The Church

...but Africa would definitely fall somewhere in the Top 30.

I never claimed it was the best 80s song, but for some reason I'm obsessed with it tonight, and thought this would be something odd to do while I write my paper.

For all those of you who are obviously waiting for the lyrics:

I hear the drums echoing tonight
But she hears only whispers of some quiet conversation
She's coming in twelve-thirty flight
Her moonlit wings reflect the stars that guide me towards
salvation
I stopped an old man along the way
Hoping to find some old forgotten words or ancient melodies
He turned to me as if to say, Hurry boy, it's waiting there for you

It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had

The wild dogs cry out in the night
As they grow restless longing for some solitary company
I know that I must do what's right
Sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus above the Serengeti
I seek to cure what's deep inside, frightened of this thing that I've become

It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had

Hurry boy, she's waiting there for you

It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had
