Secret of Mana
Uniracers (if you've never played this game, it's like mario kart, except on coked up unicycles. phenomenal game solely for the addiction factor)
NBA Jam/any of the NHL games (again, for the multiplayer replay value)
Sorry to go RPG nerd on this one, but the SNES had some great ones... almost killed me to leave FF3 out. Moogles!

I'm a huge fan of the zelda series, but felt that Zelda for the SNES was really awful. My choice for best would be one of the final fantasy games, not sure which though.

Actually, Mystic Quest was included in my "pick any." I'm probably just sentimental as it was the first FF game I played and was what got me into the series. It's sort of like training wheels to the FF series. I could see how in hindsight, any RPG afficianado would be left unsatisfied by it.

I agreed with everyone's lists, but then I went into my room and opened up "the vault" of old SNES/NES games, and remembered some of these gems:
Earthbound: Still hoping for a non-Japanese sequel on a future system, this one really has a cult following.
Super Mario RPG: I had completely forgotten about this one, but I recall having a lot of fun playing it.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV, Turtles in Time: One of the first games I got for the NES. I spent countless hours playing it.
I had long forgotten about Secret of Mana as well, with Chronotrigger and the Final Fantasy series being the only RPG's I was able to recall off hand. Did anyone here get the sequel to it, Secret of Evermore? Talk about a letdown. Someone should start a Worst SuperNintendo game/Biggest Letdown thread. I tried to make myself like Secret of Evermore but just couldn't do it. Oh, and Lord of the Rings Volume 1 was quite awful too. Back then I didn't even know that there was a book that came before it, though. /images/graemlins/cool.gif

super metroid.

Good. Somebody got it right.
For those who may not know you can play nes and snes games on your computer. Search google for nes and or snes emulators. Then search for nes/snes roms(the games). They are not too hard to find. Hook your computer up to your TV and get a cheap USB controller, and many hours can be wasted. It is just like playing on the orginal systems.
P.S. Ken Griffey Jr. Baseball needs to be mentioned.

Earthbound, Ken Griffey, Super Mario Kart, and others are worth mentioning because they're great, but they're certainly not the best games on the system. The answer is Super Metroid, and maybe FF III (VI) depending on taste. By the way, I think FF V (Japanese release only) is the best 16 bit Final Fantasy, but you can say that that's a Super Famicom game rather than Super Nintendo.

4. Lufia II

That extra dungeon in Lufia II pissed me off so much. Always derailed me from the actual game and was damn near impossible to beat without using an emulator's save-anywhere feature. Nothing like spending 6 hours getting down to the last couple levels just to lose and get nothing. Still a good game though.
That dungeon - The Ancient Cave - is one of the coolest features in any game. But you have to be a little crazy to beat it. I spent many an 8 hour plus day to lose it on the 90th floor to some "death spell" that insta-dropped my whole party. I hear the end guy is crazy too.

I learned it first on N64, which I'm sure makes a difference. But I found the controls MUCH easier in N64. I never got nearly as much entertainment out of the SNES game than the N64.

that probably is the big difference. but things would be a lot different IMO if you were some 8 year old kid playing super mario kart when it first came out. then you would never think MK64 was better. sentimental reasons i suppose.
