I went there this past weekend. I have been before and knew that waits could get long but what I saw this time amazed me...

Saturday 2/19 - Drop the wife off at the SPA at 9:30a and have until 6:00p to play. (We did this samething last year and I was able to walk in and get a seat in the $4/8 game) Walk up to the "podium" and waited 15 minutes before someone came up to ask if I would like to play....

***Side Note/Complaint***

They are running WPT Sats anytime they can get 10 players together. Its a $100+10 single table with the winner getting a seat in their $1000 main event where the winner gets a $25,000 seat at the WPT championship plus expenses. My complaint about this is anytime one of these was about to go off every available dealer/floor person would focus completely on getting this game going and forgeting about the other games and the list. Plus the main event is a joke. $10,000 in chips with 15 minute rounds and the blinds start at 500/1000!!!!! then they go to 1000/2000...

***End Side Note/Complaint***

I ask to be put on the $4/8 and $10/20 lists. They had four $4/8 games and 1 $10/20 game going. I knew it'd be a while so I went and played some other games. Finally got a seat in the $4/8 game at 3:00p. That's right a 5 hour wait! Played from 3 until 5:30. Won $185. As I left I put my name back on the $4/8 list and my original $10/20 spot was still active as they only called two names for that game in the last 7 hours. Went and Had dinner with the wife and played other games. Went back to the "poker room" at 12:30 to see where I was at and I was 10 from the top for $4/8 and the $10/20 was still 20 people deep. Ran to the room to take a shower and put the wife to bed.

Sunday 2/20 - Made it back down by 1:15a and I was about 5 away. Watched the $10/20 game for awhile and about 1:45a two spots opened. The dealer told the brush and he went and told the floor who finally about 10 minutes later called a seat for Mike S. (This doesn't seem important now but it will) While this was going on I went to check about the $4/8 game and found out the sheet I was on had been lost and I was nowhere to be found on the list. /images/graemlins/mad.gif Threw a little fit to no avail. Put my name back on the $4/8 list and went back to watch the $10/20. A lady had taken one of the open seats so there was still one open. At 2:15a one of the $10/20 players went up and told the floor they had an open seat and the floor never really acknowledge hima nd never called a name. Finally I had has enough and went and stood right by the "podium" and waited for someone to say something to me. A dealer was standing by the floor and the floor told the dealer to get the list under control and get games filled /images/graemlins/shocked.gif this should only have happened hours ago. The dealer/list supervisor asks if I need to get added to a list. I inform him (not nicely but as nice as I could) that I was waiting for a $10/20 seat and there had been an open seat for an hour. He says "Well we are kinda of busy." Really didn't notice all these people standing around. I told him I realized that but just to call some names and that one hadn't been called in an hour. He looks at the list and are you ready for this......."Mike S. your $10/20 seat is now available". I lost it at this point and told him that was who they called an hour ago. He said no one marked it so we'd have to wait to see if he shows up. At this point I gave up and was heading back downstairs to play something else. I walk by the $10/20 game and one of the players stands up and asks if I would like to play. I told him yes and was on the list but they can't manage a list so the seat will probaly never get filled. The table just told me to grab a rack and sit down and they'd cover for me if the floor or whoever came and said something. So finally at 3:00a I was playing some cards. I played until 9:30a and finished up $450. I have finally decided never to go back there again. The 'Shoe is opening up a room and I might go back there to check it out but with OK getting poker in the next month or so I plan to never return.

Has anyone else had similar experiences?

Oh by the way. I never did hear my name called for the $10/20 game or the $4/8 game for that matter..

I haven't been to but about ten different B & M poker rooms and the Hollywood Shreveport is by far the worst on many levels. On top the things you pointed out, they will seat a local who just walks in the door without going to the list just because they know 'em. Also, you can only hear the page on that floor. If you go play BJ on another floor, you can't hear it. You either watch poker or play cheap slots. If I've gotta wait hours for a seat, I wanna play some table games.

BTW, did you hear a date for any other poker rooms opening there?

Hollywood is a nightmare. I hear the Shoe is opening on March 22nd and the Winstar in Oklahoma will open in the near future. I know I've made my last trip there.

Friend of mine showed me an article that said Horseshoe was going to reopen their pokerroom.

Ugh.

Hollywood in Tunica was horrible, too. At least, when I was there in 2003.

They were the only poker room I've ever been to in my life where I stood and waited at the podium for 15 minutes, never got an acknowledgment, and when I did motion for them to notice me, got asked (rudely): "What do you want?"

Needless to say, I never played there. I turned around and walked away.

I LOVE stories like this!!!! Just more evidence that some of these casinos are getting exactly what they pay for. Yes I'm being sarcastic. But after Harrah's Corp bought Horseshoe Tunica, things are going downhill. They Fired the 2 best floorpeople in the county. Customer service oriented people, that know the business well. Then my boss was pissed when I wouldnt take the job!! "Hell know..you wont pay for good people, why should I take a huge pay-cut and be moving up?"

We are at a time where poker rooms need to step up to the plate and get the best no matter what it takes. Create better rooms now with the glut in business so y'all are coming to these same rooms when things taper off.

Sorry to hear what ya went thru. There's no call for it whatsoever.

Personally I am giving notice this next week or so and moving on to Bellagio and leaving the area. Too bad, I like this area. But I have a real hard time supporting what I see. Well, 3-4 more weeks of work, no early outs(darn), and a 40 hour drive. Another little change of direction in this lifetime.

I've played there once and thought it was mediocre. I've heard other complaints. I'm going back at the end of the very end of March-April 1 so I may wind up at the new casino if things are great there. Thanks for the heads up.

Hey Shot, I have experienced the same as you at the Hollywood in Shreveport. You didn't even mention one of their worst problems (smoke).

I live in Dallas and will not make that drive again. In fact I did the math and found that for the price of the room at the Hollywood over the weekend, you can go to Vegas for 3/4 days for about the same amount of money, which is what I did on Nov. and Jan. instead of driving to Shreveport.

I too am waiting on the Hoseshoe and Winstar for my B&M intertainment. If that doesn't work, it will be back to Vegas.

I have sworn never to set foot in the Hollywood casino again!

Unfortunately the people that hire poker room managers are unfamiliar with the poker industry. As a result the poker room managers are not the best people for the job. When they poeple at the top are unfamiliar with the business there is noway you can expect the people the hire to provide a quality service. I might work in a card room again someday, but right now I am very happy with my job online.
