View Full Version : Songs that make you change the radio station instantly

Driving around yesterday, I realized that I only need to hear like two notes of Van Morrison's "Brown Eyed Girl" before I move with lightning speed to change the radio.

Norman Greenbaum's "Spirit in the Sky" is a close second though.

The key is that it only takes a couple of notes for my mind to subconciously trigger the "change channel" reflexes.

What are yours?

Any song by boy bands, girls who can't sing, and the stupid poppy rap that seems to be so dominant today.

If by awesome you mean annoying and overplayed at weddings, then I agree with you.

Anything by Kansas, Styx, or Jefferson Starship.

I'm pretty forgiving, but this stuff hurts my head and offends my sensibilities.

I used to have a crappy car stereo that only got a couple of stations without tremendous amounts of static. One of the clear stations was classic rock.

If I heard more than four of the eight piano notes at the beginning of "Old Time Rock and Roll" by Bob Seger, I was really slow on the draw that day.

Anything by Incubus, Keane, or Morissey. I would say Missy Elliot, but I don't listen to that station unless it's by my wife's doing and I'd surely change it at first opportunity regardless of what song was on.

Great example.

My quick recognition of many of those songs stems from the fact that I had a sweet 1981 Ford Escort station wagon in high school, that only had an AM radio. The oldies station was the only AM station that played music...

The remnants from these groups should form a SuperGroup. That would be bitchin' just for how crappy it would be.

I saw VH-1 and one of the guys from Styx is now a street performer in Chicago. (Tommy something).

The supergroup to date:

1. Styx;
2. Kansas;
3. Jefferson Starship;
4. Foreigner.

When I saw the post title the first thing that came to mind was Brown Eyed Girl. Then I read your post and was happy to see that I am not the only one who hates that song. I really hate it. People always played it on the jukebox at this dump of a bar I drank at in college. I couldn't stand it drunk. Can't stand it now. Hate it. /images/graemlins/mad.gif

Anything with Phil Collins is right up there.

At least the song is incredibly repetitive (like all of their songs).... otherwise you might not even know the words.

There's some new Ludacris song being played on the radio, along the same lines of "Splash Waterfalls" from his last album. It features a verse by Lil Jon. Try and hear Lil Jon doing a "romantic" verse. 125 on the Unintentional Comedy Scale.

Anything by ACDC or Van Halen. It's nothing personal against the bands. Around here the classic rock radio stations are the only ones worth having on. ACDC and Van Halen are seriously overplayed. I'm just sick of them.

Anything by Pearl Jam, well, anything except for some stuff off of "Ten." I really can't stand Eddie Vedder's Noam Chomsky lovin' ass.

And for the record, members of Styx have already been in a Supergroup, it was called "Damn Yankees" featuring Ted Nugent, they had a hit called something like "Take Me High Enough." It clearly rocked hard.

istewart

The Vines and the White Stripes are grouped together by most but they are not comparable IMHO. The Vines are awful. The WS are not.

Add to my list, anything by 3 Doors Down, Trapt, etc.

I understand that you and your friends were trying to look stupid in that picture. This engages a sort of "double irony" factor which intensifies the humor.

I don't think I can explain any further without insulting you.

-95% of Pearl Jam songs

-"Never made it as a wise man, shama-lama llama ding dong bling blong." I don't know the rest of the line because I always change the channel too fast.

-Any Sublime song except for "What I Got." I used to like Sublime, but the alt station here is Sublime crazy.

-Any Rush song.

There are lots more; let me think about it some.

Great topic.
