These viagra threads jogged a nagging thought. What's up with all these herpes commercials?

How on earth can they afford to run commercials to find people who a) have herpes, and b) are not already on their medication? This boggles my mind.

There are so many people with herpes that mass advertising is effective?

I'm hoping the medication is really expensive and they're only looking for a few customers. Arg.

herpes is one of the top STDs and its incurable...so the massive amount of people that need these meds need them for a LONG time = highly profitable

I've heard this but it must be a diff type of herpes. I've had cold sores in the past but my d!#k has never been covered by oozing zits. I have a couple friends who have genital herpes and one of them gave it to someone before he knew he had it. I doubt this is unique. These days, unsafe sex outside a monogamous relationship is for the foolhardy.

Cold sores are simplex 1, genital herpes are simplex 2. Or maybe the other way around, I forget. It might be A and B, who knows. The percentage of people who get cold sores is ridiculously high, like 80%.

The percentage of people with genital herpes is also alarmingly high, I have heard 25%, although this is hard for me to believe. But as with other things that people often keep quiet about (i.e. our other discussion) silence makes it easier to underestimate.

You can't get genital herpes from someone with oral herpes.

Anyway, yeah, wrap it before you tap it.

"You realize they're generally the same thing right?"

cold sores, canker sores, etc are also called herpes. they are a different strain or something. so theyre not generally the same thing. herpes because you have a cold sore is no big deal. herpes on your weiner or lady parts is bad bad news. and that's what the tv adds are about.

but the std herpes is what the meds they advertise for on tv are about and that's a much more serious different thing.

it's similar to how there's hepatitis A, B, and C. similar but one is far more serious than the others.

Also, some mouth sores that people call "canker sores" are actually uclers of the mouth which are not communicable and have no relation to herpes.

The majority of oral herpes cases are caused by HSV-1 and the majority of genital herpes cases are caused by HSV-2; however, both type-1 and type-2 can occur in the genitals, oral area or both.

BTW Valtrex works for chicken pox, shingles, coldsores, and many other types of the herpes virus.

You don't have sores on your d!#k only because you haven't figured out how to give yourself a blow job. Otherwise you would. It's easily transferred that way.
