I've played a lot of backgammon over the years and did consistently well, but it wasn't until I bought Jellyfish Tutor that I found out I was making a lot of small but fundamental mistakes in my end game. In the same spirit I'd like to post a few hands from a recent Special I played and would welcome any advice.

I have entered about 10 Specials each time qualifying through an MTT satellite. I usually feel confident in these and qualify handily. In the Specials I've entered I've cashed 4 times barely scraping into the money on each occasion (perhaps that was my subconscious goal). The times I've busted out it has usually been to a worse starting hand, but obviously I don't have the stack to survive when my opponent hits his hand. My play is weak tight until I get significantly short stacked.

My last Special I felt I lacked confidence and played badly. In particular, I felt I didn't extract enough chips with my good hands and I ran scared of potential straights and flushes. I'm just laying the hands out in groups of 5. I have not added in any reads or comments, but will do if prompted.

Thanks in advance.

Come on, just a line or two.

hand 1 i take to 75 preflop, and probably end up going broke with.

hand 2
- you have to reraise the turn here, i raise to 200 on the turn here and fire big again on the river since it's unlikely he was betting the pot with a flush draw on the turn. you left chips on the table here

hand 3
standard fold, if you have more chips you might want to take a peak at a flop, but the problem is that the best you're going to flop is a draw and you don't have a lot of chips to play it well, plus you're out of position

4
standard fold for me

5

you were behind a pair of tens on the flop, the guy tripped up and bet the pot

all of these hands seem fine to me besides 1 and 2.

Hand One - Raise more PF. Too many players will say, "It may be 3BB, but it's still only 45 chips, and I've got hundreds of 'em." You are damn lucky villain was such a weak tighty here. A good player would have your (and my) stack.

Hand Two - Pop the turn. With two clubs on the board, you want to lose the competition. Any real bet would get you close to pot committed, so it might even be worth a push.

Hand Three - With other limpers callers I'd see a flop, but since you're looking at two opponents at most, a fold is fine.

Hand Four - AJ facing a raise, especially with more players to act, is garbage. Fold.

Hand #1. You played it fine. A lot of players go broke on hands like this.

Hand #2. Flop check is fine, but you MUST raise on the turn. You are holding the nuts, but they are vulnerable to either a club or the board pairing. You let the guy with 2 pair off cheap. I would raise to $250 on the turn. The river call is fine after the club hits.

Hand #3 I would generally limp UTG with a suited ace this early in a tournament and fold to any significant raise. The idea is to see a cheap flop with 3-4 other players.

Hand #4- This fold is fine, you don't lose much by folding here.

Hand #5 - Generally raise preflop to 3xBB. Turn fold is fine.

Thanks very much for all the replies.

Hand #1 - I've found even if you reraise more pf, pps will still call looking to flop a set and bust you, but other hands (AJ/AQ perhaps) will fold. I don't know why this guy didn't take more of my chips - I mean what was he worried about?

Hand #2 I think I was trying to be greedy. My nuts were well concealed ( /images/graemlins/smirk.gif) and I was hoping for more callers or even better a reraise. Since SB bet into me, I doubted whether this was a flush draw and regretted not reraising the river.

Hand #3 Since I often get short stacked I have been debating trying to see a cheap flop with Ax suited. I remain convinced that you don't get a flush draw often enough to make it worth your while and flopping an A will cost you chips.

Hand #4 & #5
I instafold here, but I just wanted to check. When I go card dead I'm often tempted to play these hands.
