Villain is fairly competent but is still too loose PF and makes too many steal attempts.

Texas Hold'em $0.25-$0.50 NL (real money), hand #668,337,010
Table Leon, 20 Feb 2005 07:22 PM

PRE-FLOP

Hero is UTG with J/images/graemlins/club.gif, J/images/graemlins/spade.gif.

Ruso329 bets $2, 3 folds, MungBeans calls $2, 5 folds.

FLOP: Q/images/graemlins/spade.gif,9/images/graemlins/spade.gif,J/images/graemlins/diamond.gif
Ruso329 checks, MungBeans bets $4, Ruso329 calls $4.

Normally I would've led on a draw heavy board like this, but I knew if I checked it to villain he would make a steal attempt. He had done this on previous occasions when checked to.

TURN: 4/images/graemlins/diamond.gif
Ruso329 checks, MungBeans bets $11, Ruso329 bets $29.10 and is all-in, MungBeans calls $18.10.

Same mindset as flop, except now I wanted him to think I was on the flush draw.

RIVER: 6/images/graemlins/diamond.gif

By the way, villain did not backdoor a flush.

If you are going to check the flop then you should plan on check raising his bet.

Did villian hold 4 /images/graemlins/diamond.gif4 /images/graemlins/diamond.gif to get the blackjack jackpot? 4 suited 4's?

(Turn and river are same card)

rofl thanks Kaz. Converter not working so I had to do this one manually. 6:diamond is river.

mcb I wanted villain to think I was on the flush draw so he would hopefully bet bigger on the turn where I then could check/raise all-in.

You got him to call your all-in raise. That said, you played the hand, and him, perfectly.

I don't like checking the turn at all. How do you know he isn't on a draw? Any K, 8, T or /images/graemlins/spade.gif can lose you the pot and you are giving it a free look at the river.

Ill just add, that since I was at the table, I would never have folded a set here to this guy. Semi-maniac, could easily have been on 2 pair or less.

Or . . . he could have called a raise with KTo and flopped da' nuts. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ding ding ding... we have a winner! Tell him what he's won Jonny!

Jonny: Well Caruso, our lovely winner has just bagged himself a trip to beautiful Jamaica! He will lounge with beachside beauties and sip margaritas to the tunes of Jimmy Buffett. All while enjoying it in his brand, new 2005 MUSTANG!

Thanks! I still hate your turn check, though. You lose the same when you are behind but you make less when you are ahead. You can't really expect someone to come out firing against a preflop raiser on TWO streets. Especially if they have a legit draw. They are definitely check/folding without improving. Come on...

In hindsight I do agree. I should've led out with a pot-sized bet on the turn if I was only going to check/call the flop.

... which basically means you should check/raise the flop.

That too.
