View Full Version : Rushes Make Me Feel Guilty

Rushes make me feel guilty because I am not earning my money, just getting good luck (obviously this isn't really true, good play with good cards maximizes money but this still how I feel). Anyone else feel this too?

We face this phenomenon in my office as well.

A collector will send out a demand letter and collect a large account without ever talking to the customer. The collector feels quilty because he got a "kiss".

Do not feel guilty Mr Bruiser. The rushes make up for the times when an opponent hits a 2 outer on you.

PS, you are a bright young man. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

No offense, but this may be the most retarded post of the year.

Does running bad make you feel good?

running really bad feels awful, i like to get an unlucky hand every once in a while though to make my rushes feel better

I think a better comeback would have been a picture of you rolling around in a pile of cash while flipping off the camera.

So rushes make you feel guilty and running bad makes you feel really awful...sounds like you must love your job.

Okay let's get this straight: You feel guilty when you are running well, and feel awful when you run bad. Why are you playing poker again?

I know what you mean.

I'm not sure I would characterize it as "guilty," but definitely uneasy.

Cause you know you should lose steadily over the next few hours to get back to your normal win rate.

Nope. It's not a worrying about downswings thing.

It's more a worry about losing perspective, or an increased concern with keeping perspective.

I've sat and watched opponents sit next to me for 1/2 an hour and go on monster rushes while i've been sitting there for hours breaking even for the session so much that I will never feel guilty about winning. Ever.

How else do you earn money except when the cards hit you? Fold for 4 hours str8, then get a playable hand cracked. Maybe then you'll really appreciate those rare times when a great run hits you. It doesn't hit often enough to me, imo.

I feel guilty when I am with friends. We are all at the casino and they are slightly up or down and I am on a rush. I feel bad because my luck is so much better than theirs. I bought them dinner last time. I felt bad, I was playing 10/20 on a bit of a rush and they were playing 2/5 practically break even.

Cheers,

You've got to be kidding me. You'll run good and you'll run bad, over time it all equals out.

Bruiser, what percentage of the hours you play do you actually win your hourly rate? Whatever that percentage is, the rest of the time must be like pure hell for you.

I agree with scrub - ruhes don't make me feel guilty, because everyone deserves some luck now and then. Better me than that idiot with the 77% VPIP who keeps sucking out on everybody. However, when I am on a big rush I live in fearful anticipation of the inevitable downswing. Might be starting one now. . .dropped 45 BB in like 10 minutes yesterday.

This is not agreeing with me. This is a different sort of uneasiness.

I feel guilty over taking friends' money in weekly games but to feel guilty about being on a rush and taking some strangers' cash is absurd. I do, however, get angry at myself for winning money when i'm not playing my A game but instead am catching those lucky outs. /images/graemlins/smirk.gif
