How does one keep count of the pot in home poker games? What are the common ways? Are there any scoring sheets to
make it easier?

Assuming that the players don't have 'chips' to stand for money, as in casinos.

Go buy some poker chips. You can get the plastic ones at KMart or Target for under $5. If you want to go all out, try ebay. great chip packs there for under 200 bux. Discourage the use of real money or IOU's

cheap K-Mart poker chips. Invest in clay, preferably customized poker chips from a reputable source. Your pocketbook will thank you for this decision in the long run.

I know clay chips are supposed to be better than plastics. How are they better, i thought they would crack easily. Who actually makes custom clay chips?

The primary reason for not using K-Mart chips is for security. Now if you trust every single person who will be in your home with the virginity of your younger sister then use cheap (common) chips. But if you think one of your buddies or one of their acquaintences might try something with sis then they will probably slip extra chips into your game as well.

You can order custom chips online, try a google search for "poker chips". There are also several mail order gambling stores you may order from either in person or online.

check it out. you have a handful of clay chips and drop them on the floor. you pick up the ones you can find and put them back in their case. you can plainly see that one is missing, so, you search until you find it.

now, you have a handful of plastic chips and drop them on the floor. you pick up the ones you can find and put them back in their case. are they all there? i dunno, maybe.

and with all this chip dropping that i'm freaking notorious for, i'm gonna go on record as saying the clay ones are pretty durable.

...Plus, clay chips are a LOT easier to handle and play with, keep track of betting during the game, etc.
