When is it right to go for overcalls?

Now, normally I would raise here. If I knew that a raise would knock out BB but UTG would call should I raise or go for an overcall? It seems that both plays get the extra dollar in the pot but is it better to knock a player out or keep him there? Or is my thinking just totally flawed here?

Go for overcalls when your not sure you have the best hand. This is not that time. Raise.

Hm, if I call, and BB calls, that leaves 10.25 in the pot. But if I raise and BB folds and UTG calls that leaves 11.25, but that extra bet is mine. Wouldn't calling be better because if I lose or if I win, the pot is the same, minus the fact that MY extra dollar is in there? Or do I want to raise to knock out the possibly drawing BB?

What about the times BB calls two? What about the times UTG 3 bets with a worse hand?

When you raise this, you don't really mind if he folds or calls since its +EV for you either way.

Yeah, I guess I have to factor in the fact that if I give them another decision to make they can make the WRONG one, and I profit even more. Thanks Donkey /images/graemlins/laugh.gif
