i bet the pot on the flop but the king scared the crap out of me so i checked on the turn. looking back maybe calling that bet on the river wasnt the best plan. any ideas ?
also how do i convert this to the format everyone else on this board seems to use for hand histories ?

Make a smaller bet on the flop to keep the pot small. Say 200 instead of the 300.

You have position, so the standard play is to bet the turn (fold to a raise) and then check behind on the river. Bet 1/2 pot on turn. If he bets the river after your check, you can call and he'll usually show you a Q with a worse kicker.

Since he called your flop bet, he probably got piece of the flop or has a hand like 99. The K is likely just as scary to him as you. If he did hit a K, it probably gave him 2-pair (ie KQ, K8) and he'll raise and you can make an easy fold.

btw - Your call on the river was fine. The pot was too big to fold for 150.

ok i think i understand what you mean but i just want to make sure. a bet of 200 still gives him inappropriate odds to call with a drawing hand. but id like to keep the pot small in case something like this happens to minimize my loss, correct ?

200 doesn't give him the proper odds to call. It gives him proper odds to call if he's getting a free card on the turn--and since you have position, you won't give it to him--right?
