I run into this situation all the time. I am severly shortstacked and in the BB with the blinds being 1/3 of my stack. What should I do here? Was calling the right action or should I wait until the next hand to do it?

Yep. 10 8 vs A 4... Could be worse.

To me it's a move, however unfortunate, that has to be made. You figure to be on average a 3:2 dog, with 1/3 of your chips already in the pot. Plus, you have a chance to play heads up for your last 400 which is an opportunity you may not get again, which is obviously far more preferable than playing a multi way pot, in which reasonably minded big stacks will check down until a hand is made.

Maybe I'm a little tight but i'll fold here and save my 430 chips for one of the next three hands where I may be a favorite. The pot odds are not tempting enough to call with any two cards just yet. I'll wait for a spot where I might have a slight edge rather than calling a raise where I am likely to be a big underdog.

I would have put all my chips in UTG on the last hand with any two in order to avoid this sort of nightmare

I call here with T8. It's not that bad against a lot of hands and the chances are you will be in a similar spot next hand (maybe worse maybe better) but with 200 fewer chips.

I ran some ICM (based on $11 table, but proportions are same)
folding = $23.49
calling if he has 2 overs = a bit under $23
calling if he has 1 over and 1 under a bit under $24
calling if he has PP under 8 = a bit over $24
calling if he has PP over T = a bit over $21
calling if he has 2 unders = about $25.5

Of course these depend on the particular hands. So by ICM it is a close call. (Assuming I did it correctly - I have only done this a few times and I haven't downloaded pokerstove yet and know I should)

I agree with most 2 cards, but, say 25o?

You could potentially be up against both players and you have so little FE on the monster stack in the BB.

ok ok most two. The reason you want to go with almost any 2 is you have a bit of fold equity. Also if you wait until you are the big blind you are typically playing the best hand out there as opposed to generally playing against random two cards in the BB (the SB gets squeezed a bit when you push UTG).

52o with fold equity against a random two is probably a bit worse than playing a random hand against the better of two random hands, but the point is try try try to avoid this spot before it happens by pushing the previous round.

I apsotively agreed. 1 high card, 2 medium cards, or well coordinated cards.

I normally would have pushed well before this spot, but the 4 previous hands were 28o, 37o, 2 10o, and 46o. I could never push any of those hands. Maybe I jumped the gun calling with the 810, but if I waited until the next hand 1/2 of my stack would be in the SB. I clearly need to double up twice to be a real threat in this tourney, so I figured that I had to take a shot with the 810.
