Not really. Say on average they weigh 100 lbs. Give or take 7lbs is reasonable.

That's fantastic - I don't much enjoy the fat-in-the-ass "JV" squad that they trot out there sometimes.

"It's going to cause girls to binge, purge, whatever," she said. "It's already causing stress."

Yea, or it's going to cause some sloppy girls to lose their jobs in favor of the better looking ones. Plenty of girls DONT have trouble putting down the donuts and mashed potatoes for dinner in favor of something healthy and some exercise. There's quite a few casinos in AC that dont dress their girls up like whores who are looking for cocktail waitresses. In addition, they should also can the girls with no breasts - that outfit looks just plain silly on a girl with an A-cup.

I agree its harsh but it seems to me that they are having a problem with girls gaining weight and have no current rule allowing them to fire the girls.

These girls take this job based on their looks etc. If they can't maintain them then it is the same as a Computer Programmer taking a job then refusing to code. If they are no longer good looking enought or thin enough for this job then they should go find other lines of work. Its not like letting them go from this job means that they will be destitute and inelegible to apply for any other job anywhere else. If they gain 7% and get fired but are still attactive enough to be a waitress, then they should apply elsewhere and probably won't have any trouble snagging a new job.

By the way, I was there last weekend, and "natural hourglass figure" is not what I would call these girl's figures at all. More like "Huge Silicone Boobs."

I like the policy, but I have a feeling it will be ruled illegal once challenged.

imnot sure about this.
from what i remember hearing, they are hired as enterntainers, not waitresses. maybe thats why they are referred to as "costumed", and being that they are hired as "entertainers" the borg can hire and fire based on appearance, cause how entertaining is looking at some moocow with a tray?

All it takes is for someone to challenge the hiring status. It would be a battle, but the Borg might go home empty handed. Of course I'm sure their legal time has gone over this already, but that doesn't necessarilly mean they would win a challenge.

Ah, so nice to see such respect and sensitivity for women in this thread. You might wanna try joining the 21st century.

As long as she does her job and brings my drinks in a friendly and timely manner, I don't really care if she looks like an anorexic runway model. Firing a 100-lb waitress cause she gains 10 pounds is just ridiculous.

Im sure the policy is more of a means of a warning to employees. Im sure they would be fairly lenient if a girl picked up a few pounds. But it is definantly part of the job and Im sure all of them knew it when they were hired.

Like a previous poster said, I found this really funny...

I for on prefer women of size. But, then I am a man of size. Remember, dogs go for bones, real men like meat.

Also I'm sure someone will sue under the ADA and Borgata will be forced to change their policy.

Other Strange ideas flying through my mind:

/images/graemlins/diamond.gif Can we expect new hirees to carry weight in their pockets for their first weigh in?

/images/graemlins/diamond.gif Id love to see one of the girls have a reduction to make the weight, or shave their heads

/images/graemlins/diamond.gif Can we expect a new wait staff every year after Christmas?

/images/graemlins/diamond.gif Do you think weigh ins will evenyually come down to people walking in in their underwear to make the weight?

Psot of the day. Bar none.

Stuffing a "heavy" into the corset bustier and miniskirt is not my idea of a pleasant experience.

I think they already have a weight limit to get into the Mixx. I don't even smoke and need to go up there once in a while to check the "line" out.

I think employers ought to be able to hire or fire anyone they want for any reason - and they shouldn't have to explain it to anyone.

It is in the employer’s best interest to hire the best person for the job they want done. It would defy logic for them to fire someone unless they thought they were not the best person they could get for that job. No outside regulation is necessary or desirable to enforce what will logically and naturally happen on its own. Certain types of Government interference in the capitalist marketplace tend to cause employers to retain other than the best people, and for their customers to get less than the best possible service.

Let's not forget that the politicians who make up whacky laws and the Government beauracrats (sp?) who enforce them are mostly just trying to keep somewhat busy and justify their own often unnecessary jobs by addressing imagined problems and those they intentionally or unintentionally create themselves - all the while at the taxpayers expense.

I have a feeling it will stand.

In Frank v. United Airlines (http://www.ce9.uscourts.gov/web/newopinions.nsf/0/d3d9928c9be3b22588256927007a7441?OpenDocument) the US 9th district court ruled that United discrimated against women by having weight requirements different from those for men. United based its weight requirements by height against a weight table, using the table lsitings for large body frames for men, but medium body frames for women.

However, the court noted that "An appearance standard that imposes different but essentially equal burdens on men and women is not disparate treatment."

The Borgata has been clear about using attractive staff as part of its marketing efforts since it opened, making appearance a condition for employment. This new policy puts out appearance and weight requirements for men and women. Assuming they meet the "different but essentially equal" standard, they should be all right.

There was a long battle involving the Mirage that stemmed from a meeting in 1995. The case was allowed to go to court, but there was no decision, the last plaintiff settled. LVRJ story. (http://www.reviewjournal.com/lvrj_home/2003/May-07-Wed-2003/news/21265049.html)

What's wrong with firing based on weight issues? Lard-asses are poor for many jobs. I wouldn't hire a personal trainer who lived at Arby's. I wouldn't take a prize-winning thoroughbred to the Belmont Stakes with a jockey that weighed more than my Honda Civic. If you want the gluttonous luxury of shoving endless amounts of food into your gob all day until you turn into Star Jones, then go get a job holding the boom mic on a film set or processing loan applications. Don't walk around in front of me with folds of flab spewing out over your short skirt while I'm trying to play poker and drink.
