Not remotely true. Discussed.

I appreciate a nice hefeweizen, and Widmar Brothers makes a decent one. However, in these evil dark and cold times, I really don't understand why anyone would be drinking anything besides tripels. If you are cheap, and Westmalle or Westvleteran are out of your budget, you can always go French-Canadian and hit the Unibroue stock. Or better yet, tuck into the Avery line, beginning with The Reverand (a nice quadruple) and moving on to The Beast---their belgian-modded barleywine. If you really just want to prove how tough you are, and you don't like money, switch exclusively to Dogfish Head's 120 minute IPA or their over-strength stout (both 21% ABV).

If you are anywhere in the Midwest, however, run to your beer supplier and pray they have some of New Holland's beer from late fall---"Dragon's Milk." It is my favorite domestic micro for 2004, and sadly I have bought Southeastern Michigan out of its supply.

But yeah, Hefeweizen's have their time and place. I'll say that recovering from the frozen chill of Stubai glacier certainly felt right with some Weiss beer, even though it was [censored] cold.

Meh. You can usually get Herradura or El Tesoro for not much more.

And if you're in San Diego, you can pick up most brands for at 40-60% off in tijuana. Three buddies and myself in college used to go into TJ to buy it for both the experience and the value. I think the legal limit is something like 1 liter per person and be 21, but we used to carry over tqo liter/1.75's at a time without issue (as long as you don't have meds, they're cool). The one time we drove, we had like 15 liters for 3 guys but didn't get searched.

Yeah, I'm told that you can go out West and get a case of 12 bottles of Patron for like 200 bucks. Unreal.

For example, I once picked up a liter of El Tesoro Reposado for $16 (was on super sale at Gigante I believe). The store I was working at the time had a 750 for $50 and some botique liquor stores were as high as $70 for the 750. I guess that's more than 60% off now that I think about it.

You could also buy the mezcal in the 3 liter plastic jug for about 8 bucks if you're daring.

To the person who asked I went to UC San Diego, graduated last March.

Lemon kills flavor. I have no idea why lemons got added to wheat beers. It many cases it is redundant too--a lot of "white" beers use orange peel to off-set the coriander.

I have no idea either. I like Widmer's Hef though, good [censored].

I've tried Don Julio......however at my current economic state I can only afford $30 tequila instead of $45

the herradura is about $30 IIRC. You could go for the sauza that's $25 which imo is better than the 1800. Kinda depends on your area prices, the liquor in Champaign-Urbana is quite a bit more expensive than in the Chicago suburbs, for instance.

I like dark, hoppy beers. Winter ales, stouts, porters, IPAs, etc. Lagers less so.

not too much difference between the two in my opinion.

Either way, spending the extra money for good tequila is +EV in my book.

1800 used to be way better then it got bought out. Now the sauza hornitos and the other blend whose name i can't remember are way way better and way way cheaper. 1800 is overpriced [censored].

as far as mass produced tequilas go, nothing will beat patron.
